How much was the payout you think? I like the ad, but surprised Padma would shill like this.

The important concept here is "model," which is Padma Lakshmi's principal credential, and one to which she's unabashedly proud and quite accomplished and effective. Paris has none of this confidence, training, or sense of humor, and her ads and political spots have just been bad, a veneer on a rather vulnerable individual. I say, more power to Padma. This particular commercial is just ridiculous enough to work. Not the product or method I'd have chosen to endorse, but then, I have neither the family history with the product, nor the gams.

That definitely looks good enough to eat (and I don't recall ever having said that about Hardee's before). :D

Fwiw, Padma Lakshmi is a fairly famous model, cookbook author, host of Bravo's Top Chef and the ex-wife of Salman Rushdie.

Actually, it's not really for Hardee's - she read David Hammond's post and was trying to make a point.

Yes, as attractive as some portions of this commercial happened to be, I had to click out of it around 30 seconds in.

I'm a fan of Hardee's and Carl's Jr. and this commercial only sparks my interest in getting back west for another 'six dollar burger'.

There's a Hardee's just off the highway in Homewood, so you don't really have to go that far.

Wow! I don't think I've ever seen a sexier commercial. She is hotter than the proverbial Depot Stove, and the burger didn't look that bad either (guilty pleasure of mine was the Hardee's Mushroom Swiss - would drive half an hour out of the way to get one).

While it might be interpreted as just a tad exploitative, I have a much greater appreciation for the works of Salman Rushdie (I could never finish The Satanic Verses, about halfway through I wanted to fall from a plane myself, it was so irritating). What a Lucky S.O.B!

Somehow they have to figure out a Top Chef contest where she has fewer clothes on. Beach Volleyball Cookout with Padma & Gayle?!?!?!?

Whoa, Padma is on that Western Bacon Thickburger like he's a wealthy sexagenarian!

It would be interesting for the campaign to follow her as she embarks on a steady diet of Hardee's. Oddly, I suspect she might lose the contract fairly soon.

Now if we could get Tom to do an equally sexy tongue-in-cheek shill. (swoon)

There hasn't been a Hardee's in Homewood for years. I don't know where that information came from, but the last time we went there it was because my older daughter wanted to play in their ball pit, and she couldn't have been more than four. I don't think anyone ever ate there.

What? There's a burger in the commercial?

I pretty much only knew her from her hosting stints on Globe Trekker (very odd hours on WYCC) where she seems to be the host of choice for the food treks, and she does a pretty good job; much better than the traditional travel hosts on the show who work way too hard to be cute. Still, it is a good show.

Thing is, she really does not need to do anything to be sexy as hell. Playing it completely straight as a host and commentator, the camera still loves her. The commercial is over the top, but I also imagine it paid very well. I still respect her, forgive her and will continue to enjoy her work.

I saw her recently on a Travel Channel rerun show guiding Jeremy Pivin around food stalls in India. It was a 2 part piece on Jeremy traveling to India to explore yoga, spirituality and food. She certainly is an interesting a varied lady.

I fell in love with her on Food Network's Melting Pot. I think I'll have to wait until I've had a couple drinks before I watch the commercial.
