Good Butcher in the Elmhurst area?

Post #1 - April 13th, 2009, 9:13 amDoes anyone have any recommendations for good butcher shops in the Elmhurst area? Whole Foods is too pricey, Jewel/Dominicks is pretty uninspiring, and Ream's Elburn Market is too far...
From doing a search on the site it seems like there are places further north, further west, but I haven't seen anything in the Elmhurst/Villa Park/Lombard/Addison area.

Post #2 - April 13th, 2009, 11:00 amThe closest is Mikes's on St. Charles at Villa in Villa Park. I shop there.
Glen Ellyn people swear by McChesney's in downtown Glen Ellyn.
There's a Halal butcher on Roosevelt in Lombard as well. Good for goat and lamb.

Post #3 - April 13th, 2009, 6:21 pmIt's probably 8 miles or so directly south of Elmhurst, but Casey's Market in Western Springs is a top-tier butcher and a genuinely pleasant place to shop. As a plus, prior to shopping you could have lunch or dinner at Vie, a GNR, which is just a few blocks away! Also in the neighborhood is Kirschbaum's Bakery, which has been in business for 50+ years and has some great sweets...

Yes- the shopping bags at Casey's have both names on them. Never been to Mike's though. Cawey's is closer.

Post #7 - April 19th, 2009, 8:38 amTry Chicago Prime on Roosevelt rd. about 1/4 mile west of I-355 on the south side of the street in a strip mall alog with Chipolte.
The have USDA prime meat and choice as well. Also have dry aged on occasion.
One reccomendation is the tenders. Hanger steak marinaded in red wine and spices.
Increadible on the grill or when sliced and used for philly cheesesteak sandwhich's.

My father was friends with Mike from Mike's butcher shop. They hung out together at The Club. One time we were due to fly to Ireland and Mike was kind enough to volunteer to drive us to O'Hare. Somehow Mike managed to get his car keys locked in his trunk in our driveway along with our luggage. I think they were at The Club before we were to depart...good times.I'm not Angry, I'm hungry.
