I had lunch at McCormick & Schmicks in Oakbrook (Promenade).today. I hadn’t been for about 6 months, chiefly because I was somewhat disappointed in my previous visit.

But because of their tax day special, I thought I would give them another try. Their tax day special was to offer some entrees (I think there were 6) for $10.40. In addition if you ordered one, you got a gift certificate for $10.40 for your next visit.

Even though there was nothing on their web site, this deal was restricted to patrons in the bar area only. I didn’t mind as that is where I like to sit. I had them put on the Sox game. But as I was near the server’s station, I over heard some servers complaining to the bartender. Evidently some in the dining area were upset as to not get the tax day special.

I asked the bartender for a recommendation from the special menu. Just them a waiter was walking by and he said the blackened chicken and pasta was very good.

So I had the house salad which I liked and the pasta. The pasta was served lukewarm and the chicken tasted and looked liked regular chicken. When I complained to the bartender the waiter (next to her) said they don’t really blacken the chicken, they just use a blackening spice in preparation. Later the first waiter came by so I mentioned this to him. He said that looking at my plate; it looked like they had forgotten to blacken it.

As this had taken a long time (they were crowded) I decided to take a pass rather than to complain for another dish. Oh, the pasta was way overcooked.

So I was disappointed again, but I guess I will give them one more chance; I do have the $10.40 coupon.

McCormick & Schmicks seems to have a good reputation, maybe it is just me.

I was actually tempted to go here today, but opted out. I am curious what were the seafood items on he specials list?

I also dont know if McS has a good reputation or not, the food is just above Red Lobster quality in my book.

Not sure I can remember them. There was Hickory North Carolina catfish (this stuck, I thought having the menu note the location was funny), fish & chips, I think one with salmon, and 1 or 2 others. You probably could give them a call, I don’t have their number.

I am sure the specials are available tonight. I forgot to mention, I had an excellent Finalandia martini there for $5.95.
