My son's first communion is coming up and he has requested fried chicken as the main entree for our family and guests. I will not have the time or means to make fried chicken the day of for 25 to 30 people and am looking for catering options on the NW side of Chicago (Norwood Park).

I am looking at Chicken Inn, Dominick's and Chamber's as options. For those of you familiar with the area, do you have any other recommendations? I would not be able to drive more than 20 min on the day of...if at all, so also would need someone that would deliver. So my boundries would be NW Chicago (Edison Park, Norwood Park, Jeff Park, Edgebrook/Sauganash, Niles, Park Ridge and parts of Skokie).

    FWIW..here is the menu

    Fried Chicken (catered)
    Mashed Potatoes (homemade)
    Baby peas (homemade)
    Biscuts (homemade)
    Watermelon salad (homemade)
    Baked beans (homemade)
    Iced Tea
    Lemonade or punch
    Strawberry shortcake
Chocolate fountain (with strawberrys, pound cake, bananas, pretzels for dipping)

How about Pollo Compero at Lawrence & Pulaski for the fried chicken?

In my experience with Chicken Inn, the chicken was pretty tasty, and it was gone in seconds during a party of all dudes. I would definitely get it again.

I have done Chicken Inn a few times, and it is always a hit. Their sides aren't the best, but it looks like you will be making most of those yourself anyways. Plus they will deliver. And the delivery is always prompt and I don't remember it being too pricey. . . well worth it while you are getting things together on party day.

CM, I am in Norwood Park also, I vote for either Chicken Inn or (gasp) Popeyes on Harlem, just south of Higgins. Both are close and in a pinch you can send someone to grab itfor you. And since the party if for your son and chicken is his request, let him choose which one.

If Chicken Inn and Popeyes are the choices, based on my one experience at Chicken Inn, I choose Popeyes hands down.

Does anyone here have any experience with Corky's catering? My aunt recommended them, but also stated that she used them over 20 years ago for her son's communion.

Would love to get feedback from those that have eaten/or used Corky's catering in a time period a little closer to date. :)

With that, I change my vote:
Go to Chicken Inn for the chicken, Popeyes for the biscuits. Mmmm, biscuits.

I have had Corky's a couple of times - the salads are Jewel quality. Everything is "ok". It's SO CHEAP, that I'd say it's better than what you pay for it, but not great. Nothing was inedible.

But, really - it's so inexpensive, you can barely cook yourself for what you pay.
