Tasty Pup recently relocated (after being closed for years) to Park Ridge. They're in Uptown on summit, right near the train station in what used to be a Planet Smoothie. Apparently, it's the same ownership as the old Niles location, although I never tried it back then.

This is the original Irvings and only remaining location as far as I know. It is way past its glory and has not been the same since Irving died. Sad because it was a very good stand in its day IMHO.

Tasty Pup in Niles was located on the corner of Milwaukee & Ballard. They offered a spectacular array of condiments and vegetable toppings which included: cucumbers, sweet green peppers, and lettuce on their skinless Leon's hot dog. Thuringers and foot long Polish were also on the menu. Tasty Pup was a one minute walk from my townhouse on the 8900 block of Washington.

OK - time to put on your thinking caps. Back in the late 60s or early 70s in Skokie, at (I think) the southwest corner of Dempster & East Prairie there was a Union 76 gas station. Next door to the west of gas station was a hot dog stand. This was before Poochie's. Am I correct?

There is a currently-operating Plush Pup at about 5300 N. Cumberland in (I believe) Chicago.

And let's not forget BeeBee's on Milwaukee, between Belmont and Addison. Great food plus a real wise guy behind the counter. Wonder whatever happened to him?

Two others on Devon were Ruby's Red Hots 1/2 block north on Rockwell and Dan-Dee's in the 2200 block. There was another at Sacramento on the north side of the street,but the name escapes me.

My earliest hot dog memories are of the Hut on Oakton just east of Skokie Blvd. in Skokie, walking from our nearby 4-flat.
Not the Corner Hut, which was at about 4700 Oakton and Kilpatrick until about, say 7 years ago, since replaced with a condo.

The original Hut was more like 4740 Oakton, a tiny shack in the 60's, barely big enough for my father to stand up in -- or so my pre-teen memory says. There's a parking lot there now, for the strip mall. It's where I learned to love hot dogs, neon relish, and fresh-cut fries. I think the same owner opened the Corner Hut later, and the original hut had a few years, perhaps into the 70's, as a used record store.

Wow! When and exactly where (ie, what's there today?) was this? I've lived in Evanston for a loooooong time, and I can't picture this place at all.

The only Moishe Pippik's I remember was at Division and Western. This goes back to the 60's. Also before it was Rubys on Rockwell near Devon it was Dave's which was originally on Roosevelt and Kedzie. I also think the Red Hot Ranch was before Lippys.
Booby's in Niles also had good hot dogs.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Wolfy's is when it opens in Ira's spot. This is the third owner in that spot all hot dogs.

In the 80's there was a very good place in Skokie on Lincoln just east of Grosse Point called Abe's on Lincoln. The best seating in the house was, of course, John Wilke's booth.

Add Jim's Char-Broil formerly in Evanston on Sherman to the RIP. Also, not to long ago, there was a mediocre hot dog joint a block to the east on Orrington close to the old Border's location. And there was another not very good hot dog place at the northeast corner of Davis and Oak where the Pineyard Chinese restaurant is now.

Moishe Pipics! I was gonna say Moishe Pipics .

How about the untraditional Mike's on Larabee just off Shakespeare (around the corner from "The Bakery")? Had a great Hula girl mural on the wall and was the only place I can recall that served a huge mound of fresh made coleslaw on every dog. I miss that place.

I was in the neighborhood and hungry yesterday so I stopped into Irving's at West Lake Plaza in Wilmete. Irving's was my go to hot dog stand when I was growing up in Wilmette and holds a special place in my heart...until now.

The hot dog at Irving's is now a completely different animal. Gone are the Vienna Beef dogs, replaced by dogs from Red Hot Chicago that appear to have all of the heft of a pinky finger. Condiments are cut so thin that the pickle spears are more like pickle shavings. No longer a banquet on a bun, this was truly a sad recession sandwich. Irving is currently rolling over.

I was ready to take my bride to Bumpkin's on Golf Road in Skokie on Saturday evening, and found it closed., and in its place another hot dog stand, which was closed for the evening. Disappointed!

Other long lost hot dog joints in the area:

Tubbo's on Waukegans Road, just south of Golf Road.
Hot Dog Hut at Waukegan and Lake in Glenview.
Franksville (a chain) at Golf and Waukegan.

I have no clue what the name of the place on Orrington was. I remember stopping in a couple times, nothing great, but they did have Vienna Beef, and there weren't that many places in downtown Evanston. I want to say that it closed just a few years ago.

I grew up just blocks away, but for some reason never remember going to Mike's on Asbury. It was next door to an Arby's, and just across the street from Bill's.

Probably due to the new Greek spot opening at the northeast corner of Dundee and Pfingsten.

I think Greek Feast and Nicks are two different kind of places. Greek Feast seems to be a Greek Restaurant whereas Nicks was more of a hot dog gyros kind of place.

the only thing i remember about Nick's is how expensive it was.
