Yesterday, while visiting Mitsuwa with Pigmon for ramen supplies, we noticed a new stand about to open in the food court. Gabutto Burger promises gourmet burgers and flavored fries.

They weren't serving yet (opening is today, April 28) but we watched a couple guys meticulously weighing and shaping burger patties. I hope similar care will be used in cooking the burgers. Where else can you get a cup of corn soup, a teriyaki egg burger and wasabi fries?

Gabutto Stuffed Pancake is slated to open next month.

that place looks promising, I agree the teryaki egg burger is the route I would go, that and the wasabi fries. looks like another good addtition to an already strong food court.

    thanks for the heads up.

Another special burger place with special fries. I'll take a good local bar burger anyday.

If I can read the bottom of the sign correctly a Gabutto burger contains beef, pork, eggs, milk and bread crumbs.
I assume a straight burger is just beef? So which is in the teriyaki burger?

Not really passing judgment they may make a great burger and fries, just making a comment on the recent trend of "special" burger places. Being an over 50 guy I grew up eating mostly pretty simple flat top grilled bar burgers.

Sorry I never really thought that comment would cause such a response, maybe I should worded it differently.

A group of us tried it yesterday and found it thoroughly unimpressive. I had the Ga-brutal egg burger and wasabi fries. The burger was small and the patty was soaked in a sauce that the cashier mentioned was a demi glaze. All of the Gabutto burgers were drenched in this sauce (the Teriyaki burgers were drenched in teriyaki sauce, and although nobody in the group ordered a Straight Burger, my guess is those are sans sauce). The demi glaze flavor overpowered the flavor in the rest of the burger. The egg would have been a nice touch if I could have tasted it. I guess you could call it a small meatloaf patty dunked in a mediocre BBQ sauce and thrown on a bun emblazoned with the company logo. The wasabi fries were undercooked and then sprinkled with a flavorless green powder (no kick to speak of). The other fry flavors were presented in the same manner, and one person deemed the garlic butter fries passable.

This is essentially an Asian-ized American burger stand, which makes me realize how unpalatable a deeply American-ized Asian restaurant could be. I'll stick to the sushi or one of the other food court offerings next time I'm at Mitsuwa.

Alg-sounds like a typical burger they serve in Japan. Having just gotten back from Japan, I can rather amateur-ishly attest to what a the Japanese take on a burger is, and the ones you had sound spot on.

I ate Mos Burger and First Kitchen while I was there. Both served up small burgers with patties that didn't quite taste like beef. The fries were definitely on the soggy side and came in a bag to shake with different flavored sauce.

I guess I'd just like to point out to anyone who wants to try this place: know what to expect. Burgers in Japan aren't like burgers in America. They are their own brand of fast food, slider type burgers that sometimes go a little overboard with the "extras" (i.e. sauces).

I'm sure to some, or perhaps many, this place will be disappointing due to false impressions of a what hamburger joint is.

I'll have to try it myself the next time I'm out at Mitsuwa.

I'm glad I read the most recent posts so I knew what to expect about the sauce on the burgers. My mom and I split a Gabutto Egg Burger. (Unfortunately I forgot my camera.) When I lifted my half of the burger I was surprised by how heavy it felt. The bun was small compared to U.S. standards. It was very light, soft, and fresh. The burger patty reminded me of salisbury steak w/the sauce on it - it was very tender and thick, not especially beefy tasting. The egg was light and ever so slightly runny. Condiments included lettuce, tomato, and kewpie mayo. I seasoned the fries with the original spices. The fries were thin: some crispy, some borderline soggy. They were fine. In the end, if I'm craving a burger, it probably won't be a Gabutto burger, but I would try it again if I am at Mitsuwa.

    HI,

I went to Mitsuwa yesterday to get ramen noodles. When I saw the Gabutto Burger stand, I beelined to order their Gabutto burger with egg. I was quite interested in their flavored fries until I learned the flavors were powders the customer shook onto their fries. I never found it a satisfactory experience at movie theaters, I didn't see it improving any fry.

When I asked the young man from the counter about the various burger selections, there were more omissions than useful information. He failed to mention the pork-beef combination, which I think is a critical element for a new customer. I finally read the descriptions to learn what I needed.

Upon receiving my burger and opening it, I found myself laughing at the bun's branding. It reminded me of old Bonanza show opening.
    Image

The dressing of the hamburger is a bit messy and slippery. There is the Kewpie mayo on the top bun, followed by lettuce, tomato and egg. The burger itself is drenched in the special Gabutto sauce.
    Image

The organic egg for the burger is poached.
    Image

When I very lightly patted the burger together, the egg yolk popped sending a river of yolk to mix into the already slippery sauce mix of mayo and Gabutto sauce.
    Image

As Pucca commented, this is a rather small burger though the patty is thicker than we experience at fastfood places. I was still hungry after eating it, then went for the soup noodles as originally planned.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

The pictures and descriptions in this thread remind me of burgers we used to get at a night market in Taipei. They were certainly unlike any American burger I'd ever had, but I loved them, they were their own little species of burger, and tasted great at about 1am after a long slog through the market.

I've got to try these and see if they're related taste-wise, because that would make me quite the happy camper!

Thanks for the report and pictures. Love the branded bun. Did you happen to notice if Gabutto Stuffed Pancake is open yet? I don't know what to expect but hope it's at least as odd as Gabutto Burger.

We were at Mitsuwa over the weekend and had some fries, but no burgers there. They tasted home made and were decent but over priced.

I don't think so -- Gabutto Burger is in the space that used to do the takoyaki and the cheap curry dishes.

Had lunch at Mitsuwa food court today and the stuffed pancake stand remains "coming soon." My wife and I took notice of Gabutto Burger, but opted for some wonderful maki and katsu-don instead.

Gave this burger a try a week or so ago.

Unusual! A preformed patty that had somewhat of a 'skin' on it reminiscent of a salisbury steak patty that had been frozen in a gravy. Actually it seemed like there was a bit of filler as well.

    Meh

Different! The teriyaki sauce/glaze was to my liking but made for a sloppy sandwich. The branding of the bun was a fun touch. Nice, soft and fluffy bun.

The ordering system was interesting too. Touchscreen menu where you picked out your items, paid with a card and got a receipt with your order number. Fast and easy.
