I pondered this question to my wife this weekend as we tried out our new ice cream maker, and then saw it asked on Apartment Therapy's Kitchen blog but without a definitive answer... maybe somebody here knows the answer.

I want to locate plain white paper pint containers to put homemade ice cream into. Something the size/shape like what Ben & Jerry's comes in. And I don't want to have to buy in rediculous quantities. 10-25 pack is reasonable... hundreds is not. I tried Krasny & Co on Clybourn, but they only had wider, squat pint soup containers and in 50 packs. Looking for better options. I also checked Container Store and Cost Plus World Market to see what they might have and picked up a couple Chinese food containers to try out. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone with access to Restaurant Depot anymore since my grandparents sold their business...

Check out one of the paper goods supply places on Randolph. One is called Bloom's Paper supply, but there are one or two others as well.

Perhaps demonstrating my questionable ethics, I usually take several of the containers pictured below from the soup-to-go section of Dominick's. I'm not sneaky about it, and on the one occasion a manager asked "What are you doing with those, sir?" I simply told him that "I'm taking some containers for my homemade ice cream."

I buy them from Massa on North Ave. They have always been willing to sell them to me and I usually ask for 5-10 at a time. I also bought some ceramic ones from Crate and Barrell that have nice lids as well. I often make my ice-cream-loving boss some for her birthday or Christmas and she always gives them back to me so she gets more ice cream. :D

Steve Z, I think that Bloom's Paper Supply is no longer with us.

I just purchased this from Amazon for $12. It is also available in white only at Crate & Barrel. I really like that I will be able to use this to transport my ice cream to gatherings. I haven't tried it out yet, b/c I am just ordering an ice cream maker tonight!
