I was going to Binny's and noticed a big sign in the adjacent strip mall that said:
French Cakes. Why wouldn't I stop?
The bakery is in Plainfield off Rte 59 on the east side of the road, near the Binny's. It is next to
Nick's Cozy Corner, which parenthetically seemed to be doing a land-office breakfast business on a Saturday morning.
But back to French Cakes. It's a lovely bakery with lots of croissants, including ham and cheese, pan au chocolat, and other pastries, like palmiers, crinkled chocolate cookies, ginger snaps, butter cookies with chocolate chips. Also traditional French cakes, and cupcakes (I had a chocolate/chocolate one that was super -- cake was very moist and the frosting was a nice chocolate flavor).
The bakers are
heavy duty and onsite, and seem very nice.
Also, the ham and cheese croissant was delicious. Glad to see there's something like this out in the burbs, and I hope people support it.
