    The Swine Flu

It started with fried tortilla strips, topped with chorizo hash, roasted green chile, pico de gallo, fresh cilantro and then there's a touch of like this cream based sauce that was pretty amazing.

In all honesty it was the best burger i've have from there. Ever.

It was really delicious. I'd eat the chorizo hash every day for breakfast. Also, the wait was only 30 minutes this (Sunday) afternoon, though the hostess told us it would be 90 minutes when we got there.

Oh, and, the waitstaff were all wearing surgical masks around their necks or on their foreheads. Good times.

I think I see a late lunch/early dinner at Kuma's in my future, that sounds terrific!

I'm glad they went with something so boring and non-controversial. I was just thinking, though, that they could really use some extra publicity.

What are the odds of a burger of the month ending up on the regular menu?

Our waitress yesterday told us that a lot of people have asked for this burger to be added to the regular menu, but the chefs say that it's too labour-intensive.

That's kind of surprising considering two of the other burgers of the month that managed to make the regular menu--the Goblin Cock and Bongzilla. Both of these seem like they'd be more labor-intensive than most of their other burgers, but I could be completely off base here.

In any case, I'm excited to drop by next week and try the new burger. I have yet to be let down.

The swine flu sounds amazing. Also similar to something I had over the summer there. The name escapes me but it had fresh roasted green chilies from New Mexico, roasted corn, maybe pico? And a creme fraiche sauce. I could be missing an ingredient but those were the main ingredients. It was the best burger I had there for sure. I can only imagine what adding Chorizo to it would do. I must have it.

Damn. Looks like I'll have to haul ass during lunch and try to make it back in 1 hour. From my search, it appears Kuma's does takeout? Can I just call ahead a la Hot Doug's?
Last week Patty's (likely this week too), next week Kuma's...I guess the week after will be lettuce and water.

You can carry-out from Kuma's. Some coworkers have done it.

Are you talking about the Dark Throne? I was there this past Friday, and had it... after an hour and 45 minutes wait. It had roasted chilies of some sort (not sure if they were green chilies actually), definitely pico de gallo, and a creme fraiche sauce. It was mildly spicy

    My Kuma's spreadsheet says:

INSECT WARFARE panko-crusted medallion of goat cheese, caramelized onions, roasted corn and green chili, topped with a roasted corn, cilantro and green chili salsa (Sep 08)

Bongzilla (Jul 08) looks like the last special to make the jump to regular menu...Lair of the Minotaur was also a special first (Feb 08). I don't have Pantera marked as a special, but kinda think it was too...

I know the Food Network does not come in for much love here, but they have a "50 burgers, 50 states" page on the website, which is supposed to show the best burger in each state. A familiar name comes up if you click on Illinois

While it's great to see some Kuma's love, their In N Out pick for California immediately discounts the list in my eyes.

Better hurry with those to-go orders, y'all. I wrote them the other day:

Swine Flu Looks So Tasty...but my weekends are all booked up til June! I was hoping to bring this back to work for lunch, but can I call up with an order ahead of time and pick it up?

    And the response:
yes until mothers day.. then togo is over

I just checked with a friend who is at Kuma's several times a week. His understanding is tht it is only seasonal to balance the workload a bit while the patio is open.

Haha...it's not really all that worthy of intrigue. I had a few friends who were trying to eat every burger on Kuma's regular menu last year, so it was a way of tracking their progress and my relative lack thereof. At some point, I thought it would be worthwhile to add the monthly specials to it...with some Internet detective work (obviously this thread was quite useful) I ended up with a fairly complete list of Kuma's specials. I'm sure there's stuff missing though, especially pre-2008.

Is there a good way to post it? It's a google doc now, but I don't really want to make it publicly accessible. I'd thought about just pasting the list into a post for this thread, but that seems like it'd be long and unwieldy.

Looks like Kuma's is getting a new kickass website. It's the same address but without the hyphen. I hope they post the specials there from now on!

I just remembered they no longer do to go orders, and I want to cry. Guess I'll be getting up early next Saturday. Stupid work, getting in the way of burger love.

They are also having a burger contest. If you win, it will be on the board for all to try, and if patrons love it, it will be around forever and be named after you! Mmm...I'll have to start working on my Pie Burger. Or in keeping with the tradition, I can use this:

I just realized that I didn't post my opinion about The Swine Flu, although it's the same as everyone else's. If I were on death row, and it probably won't be long now, this will be my last meal.
Now that they no longer accept to-go orders, I'm planning my last two weekends around Kuma's hours.

Using the Death Metal Band Name Generator, I got "Dismembered Eucharist."

I'm thinking polish sausage and chorizo segments with grilled onions and blood-orange jam on consecrated flatbread.
