Is there a store in the Chicagoland area like CakeArt Party Store? I saw this post on Bakerella's blog, and my mouth just hit the floor with envy.

Pucca, have you checked out this little store on Western? I've never actually stopped in, but I noticed it a couple of times:

    Emely's Cake Decoration & Supplies
    4442 N Western Ave
    Chicago, IL 60625

Window in Emely's Cake Decoration and Supplies was papered over with a huge For Rent sign when we drove by this afternoon.

There used to be a place on Ridge in Lansing, IL called Cake-Pan Alley that was about a tenth of what CakeArt Party Store looks like, but it was still pretty good.

They closed down last year and I haven't found another decent store around NW Indiana since.

I just noticed a place on Harlem just north of Addison with a name like Cash Registers and Kitchen Equipment. It's a blue sign on the west side of the street.

Are there any places like these around anymore? All I can think of is Sur La Table. I need a new cookie scoop but I might have to wait until the tent sale, since I'm not sure what size I have.

Bed Bath & Beyond has cookie scoops. Take one of their ubiquitous 20% coupons with you.

If you're referring to Bed Bath & Beyond, the Chow Poodle bought one there in January. If NW Cutlery, they hve a bunch of them in bins and on the pegboard along the wall opposite of the knife display cases.

I picked up some supplies at Alliance Paper Goods on Randolph yesterday ad they were rearranging the store and had added a banner saying that Alliance Paper is merging with Schweppe and that goods from both stores will be available at their cash & carry location in Chicago. I doubt there's much Schweppe stuff there yet, but if you can wait a week or so, you may be able to get your Schweppe supplies in the West Loop instead of having to Schlep to Schweppe in Lombard.

Don't know what sorts of things folks are looking for, but I have a supply of items I bought when overcome by enthusiasm while taking classes -- and have never used -- so I'm interested in selling them. Cake pans (shaped like card suits), chocolate molds, curved racks for cooling and shaping "leaves" and tuiles, cookie press ("gun" with multiple templates for different cookie shapes), crepe pan, crimper, cookie cutters (Christmas), and if I can find them, pastry tubes and tips.

Also looking to sell commercial Osterizer blender with stainless steel body and many spare parts and Tupperware grater with bowl and lid. I'm just not using these items, and it seems a pity to have them sitting in storage when someone could be enjoying them.

PM me if you're interested. Not giving them away free, but they will be lots less than retail -- and just as "brand new."

I had a client years ago that had all sorts of baking and cooking supplies that most of the restaurants go for supplies. It is no frills but the price can't be beat. Some things are in bulk.
