The last time I was in Arlington Heights I stopped at Mitsuwa and picked up some frozen, filleted eel-- the cooked stuff you'd find in unagi sushi. It was great-- but Arlington Heights is far from me, and now my supply is running down... anyone know where I can pick up the stuff in the city?

Just in case you need a tab more info, Dirk's Fish & Gourmet Shop is located at 2070 N Clybourn.

It's tucked in a little strip across from Treasure Island, which also houses Panera, Jamba Juice and a few other stores.

Very friendly, great service, and in the nicer months, they are always BBQ-ing stuff out front & giving out lots of great samples.....

    Enjoy!

For oriental supplies, including some japanese items (not sashimi grade) I make the trek up to Broadway supermarket. There are some other similar shops close by - this is near the Argyle "North Chinatown" , but I have found that this place has better selection, and (seemingly) turnover.
They do have several brands of unagi.

While you are there, do go up a few blocks to Argyle St. and buy a snack, and or noodles in the tiny shop right under El tracks. (Don't know the name).

The Bahn Mi (sandwiches) at Ba Le Bakery at Broadway & Argyle are very good too.

Thanks everyone for the tips-- I feel a lot more secure in my unagi needs now. I want to add that today, while not looking for it, I found packaged, unfrozen unagi at Fox & Obel.
