Does anyone know a good local source for neoprene or heavy rubber barbecue gloves? I live on the Northwest Side, so anywhere close would be a plus. Couldn't find them at Home Depot or my local hardware store.

    Thanks.

A friend bought me a pair of Orka brand silicone bbq gloves from Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Pros: Relatively heat proof, easy to clean (can be sanitized in the dishwasher, came in pink(!)
Cons: Still got quite hot, but that was under commercial use. Bulky and hard to grip things like tongs or spatula.

I would prefer silicone or neoprene heavy gloves w/fingers instead of the mitten style. You can always line w/cotton gloves for additional heat protection.

Welding gloves are great if you're not worried about food contact or getting them wet.

I have these, purchased form amazon. You may be able to find them locally.
They are okay, a bit bulky but great for transferring meat to and from the smoker.
The inside of these is a soft cloth like material so not sure about putting in a dishwasher.
To clean mine I turn the hot water on, put on the gloves then wash them with dawn detergent like I am washing my hands.

You could try Norbert Pools or Mil-Green in Niles, both on Milwaukee within 2 miles of each other (one on the south end of Golf Mil, one on the north). They sell grills and other equipment to go with them.

I bought mine at Backyard BBQ in Wilmette, which has a pretty good selection of all things BBQ.
