Best slice o' Apple Pie in Chicagoland?

Momma Ghazi used to make the most amazing apple pie from scratch, and to date I have yet to find a restaurant that could come close (don't even tell me to bake one. . i am an eater of foods, not a maker!)

What are your recommendations for the best apple pie? A recent slice at Depot American Diner was excellent and perhpas the best I've had in years.

Hoosier Mama's is my absolute favorite. Not too sweet, with a hefty serving of apples and a thick edge to the crust. She pre-cooks the apples before baking the pie, so you don't get the shrinkage that you often see. I believe she also uses some cool spices like star anise and whatnot as well as the regular cinnamon.

My vote is for Fox and Obel. The crust is wonderfully tender. The apples are plump and not too sweet. It always feels perfect. I don't know how they do it but if feels like the apples are enveloped in a bit of custard.

I'll second TDAD, it's my favorite in Chicago thus far.

I agree that Hoosier Mama's pie is truly excellent, perhaps the best in the city right now--by far the best I've had. I would choose Fox & Obel next--very respectable, but a distant second. It's not pie, but Floriole's caramel apple turnover is also outstanding.

I love pie's and I'll have to mirror what has been said before, go to Hoosier Mama. There is a post about it somewhere on this board, just too lazy to c & p the link.

Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, the Silver Palm has a really excellent apple pie. Apple pie + bourbon at the bar makes for a nice nightcap.

I love apple pie, but I only liked Hoosier Mama's (which I had at Glenn's Diner last weekend). I guess that when it comes to apple pie I really prefer the traditional spices - allspice, nutmeg and cinnamon, and not too much of any of them. To me, the star should be really good, tart apples. In this case, I just didn't fall in love with the addition of star anise which was very noticeable.

Co-worker's birthday is coming up, and he's a pie fan. I nearly cried with joy.
Apple seems to be the consensus over here.
The first things that came to mind for apple pie were HM and First Slice, but I recall I had Gracie's from Medici on 57th ages ago and liked it. Has anyone had it lately? What's the verdict? I want to go but it's out of the way, so I'm weighing my options.

Also, other recommendations are welcome too, but preferably in the city only. Thanks!

Why not make HMP's Apple, rosewater and raspberry or sour cream and apple.
