    Hey all,
I didn't see this posted anywhere in the search so I figured I'd start a new topic. It looks like Hot Doug's might be getting a little competition with a new spot that opened 2 weeks ago in Lincoln Park. I haven't been yet (plan on going tonight), but it is called Chicago Dog House and is located right across from Depaul at the Fullerton/Lincoln intersection.

There was a small write up about it on the Chicago Menu Pages blog, which posts the menu as well. Menu looks like this:

    Hot Dogs - $2.90
Chicago Style dragged through the garden
Blue Demon Blue cheese, buffalo sauce, and celery.
Blago Chicago Style w/Ketchup. (Opening Bid $1000.)
Corn Dog Hand dipped and delicious.

    Specialty Hot Dogs - $3.50
T-Frank Bacon, cream cheese, avocado, and homemade hot sauce
French Poodle Brie cheese, grey poupon, & pear
Mayor Daley Irish Cheddar, caramelized onions, and Smokey Dijon
Greek Town Hummus, onions, tomato, and home made tazaki sauce
BLT Dog Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato and mayo
Snoop Dog homemade chili, onion, & Colby cheese
Chihuahua Homemade hot sauce, guacamole, cheese, onion, & tomato
Polish caramelized onions, green peppers, & mustard
Italian sautéed peppers, onions, & sweet mustard

    Gourmet/Specialty Sausages - $6.50 -- Subject To Availability & Weekly Specials
Ribeye Steak Sausage sauteed mushrooms, aged Irish cheddar, caramelized onions, horseradish sauce
Atomic Bomb Guacamole, chihuahua cheese, homemade hot sauc
Lamb tomato, onion, feta, homemade tazaki sauce on a pita
Smoked Duck Swiss cheese, mushrooms, caramelized onions, Dijon Mustard
Chompers Smoked Alligator: caramelized onions & sweet chili sauce

    Burgers - $3.90
Veggie Burger Hummus, tomato, caramelized onion, green peppers, lettuce, and sweet & spicy mustard
BBQ Bacon bacon, bbq sauce, Colby cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions
Greek feta, onions, hummus, tomato, and homemade tazaki sauce

    Meals
Hot Dog, Fries, & Drink 4.99
Specialty Hot Dog, Fries, & Drink 5.50
    Gourmet/Specialty Sausage, Fries, & Drink 8.50

Seems less expensive than HD's and is open 11am-10pm. Won't have to deal with that line either. I'll report back tomorrow with pictures.

You wouldn't by any chance have some affiliation with this establishment would you?

I say this even though your post doesn't sound the slightest bit suspicious this being your first post and all.

this place sounds interesting, based on the menu items & prices posted above, other than the location that is.

Actually, the prices aren't that far off from Hot Doug's...within a dollar/item. I'm also skeptical about the lack of lines...that's a jumping corner in a jumping neighborhood, so if it lives up to its full potential, I'm sure the lines will be well out the door there too.

The hours are quite intriguing though...a nice gourmet sausage dinner, located within 2 blocks of the red line...my mouth is watering.

Please do report back - I'd love to see pics & hear your impressions!

So I was able to get over to Chicago Dog House today. It is a small store front just west of Halsted/Lincoln on Fullerton. Two young guys are running the place. The menu is exactly the same as I had posted before. They had a pheasant with cognac as their rotating special as well. I elected to get the duck and the lamb. The lamb sausage was smaller then what is offered at Hot Doug's. The owner's said they do not make their sausages in house as that is a large undertaking. The duck sauasage tasted almost identical to the one that Doug uses.

What I didn't like about the dog's were the bread/bun they used. For the lamb, they used a pita and for the duck they used a baguette. It was way too much. The duck sausage came with some delicious carmelized onions and an apple chutney while the lamb was pretty standard with olives, feta cheese, onions, and lettuce.

I also got an order of homemade potato chips which were very fresh.

The owners mentioned they would begin late night delivery once DePaul started up its fall semester. I took some pictures but they didn't come out the greatest so hopefully you can make do.

I think this place needs a little time to get its niche down and figure out better combinations between sausage/bun/sauce/cheese. I don't know if I'd go out of my way to go here again, but if I'm in the area I'd go back to see how things tasted down the road.

Thanks for the followup! This doesn't look like the sort of place I'd go out of my way for either (what with the brought-in sausages & apparently store-bought buns and all), but I could see myself stopping there in a pinch if I'm in the neighborhood.

That said, the food in your pics did look decent...if they can make it until the school term starts, they could do alright thanks to the students in the area.

Now imagine if they extended their hours to 3am (4am on Saturday)...they'd be rich, rich I tells ya!

Thanks for the writeup. There was a small blurb about Chicago Dog House in the Redeye today and I'll admit that it made me curious. Since I live fairly close by, I suppose I'll give it a shot some time soon. I'm intrigued by the supposed fried-to-order sweet potato fries.

It's kind of amazing to me that it's taken someone so long to do this.

To be fair, Doug doesn't make his own sausage or bake his own bread.

true, though he does commision some sausages to be made according to his own recipes.

Yes...yes, I am. Though I guess I'm also a little surprised it's taken longer to get to a more Lincoln Park-y location.
