    Hi,

Listening to 24-hour old phone messages to learn I was called to settle a bet: "Who invented pizza, the Italians or the Chinese. I know the Chinese invented pasta, but pizza, too?"

I haven't replied yet, because I needed to think about it myself. Flatbreads are common in many regions. If it is the combination of flat bread, tomato sauce (new world) and cheese, then it may be Italian.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

You take family to a well-respected restaurant on a Friday night. The place is empty. Your brother asks for ideas for things to do during the day Saturday. You reel off a list, including the possibility of a culinary bike ride. Part way into the meal, a couple of people come in. One leads culinary bike rides - the same I'd described previously.

Next day, you're biking the streets of Chicago, stuffing yourself with Korean, Pakistani, American and Chinese versions of BBQ.

You are sitting at Eve with family & friends. The restaurant your husband chose from your stack of a la cards that you found out about on this forum. You keep the joy to yourself as you peruse the list of farms the restaurant is featuring. Then at the sweets' course you want full discourse of which stone fruits from a recognized farm are featured in the sweet offering.

Geo, I'll trade you 10 Bobby Flay's for 1 Masaharu Morimoto.

Funny you should mention that Josephine. The other night the chefbio on Food Network was Bobby. A large portion of time was devoted to the two first battles between Flay and Morimoto, the first of which Flay lost, the second not. He actually looked pretty good. So I don't think that 10 to 1 ratio on the trading cards is quite right! :P

You get sweet emails like this from total strangers you helped on the streets of the Big tough city:

    Hey,

Thanks for the suggestions on eating places in Chicago! If you remember, you met us outside the Intelligentsia shop a couple of weeks ago. Taking into account our limited time, we decided to eat on the 7th floor of Macy's. It was wonderful! We loved the atmosphere and the food. As it turned out, we needed to head back to the hotel right afterwards. So, we rode into the city for a cup of coffee and lunch. But, it was fun and worth it.

Thanks for taking the time to talk with clueless strangers! ^_^

    May God bless you always,

This is a woman w/ 3 kids & none of them have a sweet tooth. Came into Chicago b/c they heard about Intelligentsia.

This warmed my heart. Thanks for all of the kind & meaningful suggestions here. Now how about we get that campaign together for more GNR's in the Loop

If I remember correctly, I believe you've mentioned that you're vegetarian, right? I've heard good things about the Grilled Veggies sandwich ("seasonal veggies, feta cheese & sweet balsamic glaze"), and word on the street is the banana bread pudding is pretty tasty (it's on my list for next time) :)

Before I answered this person, I did a little reading though always the information could be flawed. I was seeking flatbread with tomato and cheese. Some information suggested following the trail of the tomatoe's introduction into food culture. Spain came a little earlier than Italy, though it leaned toward Italy for the combination being sought.

I am guessing your thought on Greece may be related to the flatbreads origins rather than pizza as in tomato and cheese?

    LTH,

    Oddest dream last night.

I was walking with Gypsy Boy and Cinny's Mom in a field filled with soup dumpling bushes, steaming aromatic luscious looking soup dumpling bushes ripe for the plucking. Every time I tried to nab a soup dumpling with my chopsticks Gypsy Boy or Cinny's Mom would playfully grab it first. After multiple dumpling steals by the two of them it turned into a laughing, running, jostling race through the soup dumplings, think KungFu Panda.

Was a really funny/odd dream with Cinny's Mom the clear winner in the soup dumpling race.

    Enjoy,
