I kid. Central Iowa has some great food, as documented in the various odes to pork tenderloins. No offense meant.

Now, me, I prefer my fried snout without the nose hair...unless they take the time and care to braid it.

Easily , the most disgusting overall BBQ establishment I've ever been to...ANYWHERE (by a country mile, actually).

The Corned Beef and Pastrami Hash at Eleven City Diner. Too finely ground; I'm not even sure it's corned beef or pastrami (sawdust?)
Very bland. Far from "The Best I've Ever Had" as they claim. Throw in terrible customer service and it's definitely among the worst.

Everything ordered from Sarpino's (in Elmwood Park, I think) last night in a moment of desperation at a late hour with little desire to cook and my normal delivery choices already closed on a Sunday night. Pizza was overly doughy and didn't have enough sauce. Garlic sticks were just there. But the buffalo wings - oh god, the buffalo wings. I had a vague sense of deja vu at first bite, and it finally hit me why as I began a second wing - they were exactly the same as some frozen wings I'd had years ago (purchased either from the Jewel, or Market Day, I cannot recall which for sure). Exactly the same not-quite buffalo sauce, exactly the same overly fattiness of the chicken, and exactly the same gelatinous quality taken on by the sauce as it cooled.

Sarpino's may not have bought those wings from the same retailer I did years ago, but they certainly get them from the same supplier. And they're just as bad as they were when I bought them frozen way back when and baked them in the oven for the suggested cooking time. Just plain terrible.

A large pizza from House of Pizza in Brunswick, ME.

The singularly most god-awful pizza I have ever tasted, fresh or frozen, in my entire life.

A terrible, bready, flavorless crust was topped with the most flavor-absent "tomato" sauce, cheese, and assorted toppings (all standard, mind you), that I have every come across. It was the only pizza I have every actually had to salt (fairly liberally) to even choke down.

I am confident that I could make a product 10x better with a boboli crust and generic brand supermarket toppings. The frozen Tombstone I ate a few weeks later was miles above this pizza, flavor-wise.

Gnocchi alla Romana at Pizza D.O.C. The gnocchi was very grainy, perhaps undercooked . . . I'm not quite sure. And the tomato sauce didn't help as it was way too sweet.

Perhaps worse than "greasily unappealing," unfortunately.

Pretty darn close, though I'm sorry if you have any basis in experience for making this excellent guess.

tatterdemalion, are you going to reveal the identity of this foul forkful?

What a coincidence, that describes my experience at La Pasadita today as well, if you sub "lengua" for "barbacoa".
