wine and cheese?

Hey,
How are you? I don't know why I ask that when I never get a response to it. Anyways, I am trying to get a party planned that I am going to have in late August. And I am fine with all of the wine and the food that is going to be involved... Except for the cheese. I think that that is the hardest thing that you can have is the cheese. I know that that can make or break the party because its going to be at the beginning and if it starts out bad that means that they are going to have that taste in their mouth for the party and I want to make it a positive experience.

What kind of cheese should I use? I went to this one party and they used Cheese Ambassador and can I just say amazing.

What do I do?

I'd say your request is lacking in the kind of detail that will produce any useful answers.
How big is the party?
What is your budget?
What type of party is it? (Formal? Informal? Sit-down? Graze and nosh? is it a tasting or just social and the food is incidental? Are the people industry people or just friends? Are you going to be really focusing on the cheese, and on wine and cheese pairings, or just people eating what's there?)
Daytime?
Evening?
What else are you serving?
What are the wines?

Any or all of this info could inform your cheese choices.

The cheesemongers at the new Whole Foods seemed pretty knowledgeable about the tasting notes of many of their cheeses, so they might be good people to ask. Conversely, the folks at Sam's Wine have been great in the past about recommending wines to pair with specific foods, I bet they'd be able to point you toward some good cheeses to go with your wines.

I'm in the same boat as you - I wouldn't know where to start when it came time to match cheeses & wines, so I would ask someone who was hopefully better equipped

I agree with Khaopaat's recommendations of Whole Foods and (to a lessor extent) Sam's. I'd also through in Pastoral.

Personally, I think that your best bet to purchase interesting and good quality cheeses from all over the world are the 2 shops of PASTORAL ( 2945 N. Broadway and 53 Est Lake, in Chicago) and BINNY'S ( 1132 S. Jefferson Street and 3000 N. Clark, in Chicago) .
If you are interested in composing a cheese platter made entirely of French cheeses, may i suggest that you go on my b log, FrenchVirtualCafe.blogspot.com, and check in the subject index for french cheese Tray, or Camembert.
You also will find on that blog several suggestions for good but cheap French wines.
