I see that Mr. Bunny is sporting a new red vest, and seems to have gotten a nice tan over the winter.

I was astounded to read the food guy in teh Sun Times put Bunny Hutch on his list of best places to get a shake today. That place is truly awful.

BUT the article also said that there is an Oberweis just a few doors down from the Bunny Hutch on Lincoln Ave in Lincolnwood. Is this true? I havent been that way in a while.

The Oberweis website has a handy store locator: http://www.oberweisdairy.com/web/locations.aspx

Indeed, there is one at 6469 Lincoln in Lincolnwood.

My wife was pretty unhappy when it opened (very close to our house). She's unhappy when she goes there nearly every week for a turtle sundae.

I think the Oberweiss must have made Bunny Hutch sit up and take notice. We went to golf the other day, and I noticed this sign:

So, since we were hungry and I had a shady parking spot, we decided to risk it. They are apparently open year-round, now, and the staff was solicitous and eager to please. We ordered a hot dog, fries, drinks, and a "guacamole burger." The hot dog came out of a dirty-water holding bin and was the characteristic grey bathed dog, but otherwise it was on a fresh bun with fresh toppings (in future, dogs aren't the way to go here.) The fries were standard frozen crinkle-cut, edible but nothing special - but the burger was a fresh burger, freshly cooked, and topped with guacamole which the chef said was freshly-made, and judging from the tupperware container it came in, I'd guess he was correct. Sparky didn't even give me a shot at the burger, he wolfed it down, so I think it is to be assumed that it's at least decent.

Are there better places to eat? Yes. Is this place somewhere I'd avoid? No. We didn't try the shakes, but they offer soft-serve ice cream, so I assume that's the base for them.

I drove past the Bunny Hutch earlier today and noticed a For Rent sign in the window.
