Family will be in town next week, and I'm looking for non-museum related things to do. I thought Mitsuwa might be fun, but it's a little too far, and a little too inaccessible by PT. That said, are there any Mitsuwa-esque markets in Chicago proper? I'd prefer Chinese, but I'm open to anything (or, for that matter, any other food activities/destinations that could entertain a variety of ages). Thanks -

    HI,

For a shop, I'd go to Chicago Food Corp., which may not have a food court though it does have a little lunch area.

Devon Avenue/Western, Argyle/Broadway, Chinatown, Sunday's Maxwell St. Market (Roosevelt/CAnal) or the Kedzie/Lawrence areas are certainly unique locations for strolling and eating.

Neither would be confused with Mitsuwa but 2 huge Asian markets that come to mind are Five Continents (4000 W 40th) and Chicago Food Corp (3333 N Kimball). Both are accessible by CTA: Pulaski bus stops in front of FC and the Belmont Blue Line stop is only about 2 blocks south of CFC.

And if you'd like to go more in a Chinese direction than Korean:

    Richwell Market
    (312) 492-7170
    1835 S Canal St

Or, just the mall in Chinatown on Archer. Plenty to see/eat/gaze at there. Hopefully, it would be a nice day....
