A West Loop lounge called Red Kiva is about to introduce the Vaportini. It's kind of the same concept as "alcohol without liquid" but I don't think there's a machine. Basically, you inhale the fumes, rather than drinking the liquor.

Has anyone ever tried this? Is there any merit to it? It seems to me to be a way to get drunk quickly for people who don't like the taste of booze. (Although it's going to come in several flavors.) But I haven't tried it, so I could be wrong.

This is the first I've heard of this so could be quite wrong but I wonder how much alcohol, if any, one would ingest with this technique. Ethanol boils at 173F but the Vaportini container is only heated to 110F.

Yeah, at that temperature all they're doing is speeding up the alcohol's rate of evaporation. So you'll be there sucking in bits of boozy fumes for quite a while, while normal people had already thrown down three ice-cold, drinkable martinis & called it a night :)

Maybe Morgan Freeman will weigh in on the issue.
