Advice for eating at Marché tonight?

Cabbagehead and I are invited out to Marché this evening. Any advice on what to order or avoid?

I've only been once a while ago, the steak frites came cut and was I believe was skirt steak. I was hoping a nice bistro steak frites, it didn't meet my expectations. So, I would say pass on that.

Hmmm... last time I was there they definitely had a strip steak. Just checked their online menu and they do have a "Bistro" strip steak. Their "Steak Frites", on the other hand, clearly says skirt steak (and at $18 you're not gonna get much more than that).

In any case, I think Marche is still a great spot. We don't go nearly often enough, just because the city offers way too many options. We were there a few months ago with two other couples and our orders ran the gamut from steak to fish to fowl and nobody was dissatisfied with any of the courses.

Thansk for the clear up Norman. Either way, I didn't think it was as good as other french bistro's I have been to.

Thanks for the replies. I thought I'd report back on the meal, which was good but not great. I had mussels and frites, which were both tasty. Mussels were cooked perfectly in a nice cream sauce. I wish they had given me a spoon to get more of the sauce (I know, I should have asked but somehow didn't). The frites were crispy but with some soft in the middle and served in a paper cone with a mild garlic sauce. Nice apps that husband and I split of mushrooms in puff pastry and roasted beet salad with goat cheese and frisee. Decent but not exciting banana bread pudding for desert. Others seemed to enjoy their meals. Brother number 2 had the duck and said the breast was terrific but the leg (confit?) rather dry. Sister-in-law number 2 enjoyed her fillet mignon. We had a nice fairly private space for our party of 8, with a round table--always nice so everyone can talk to each other. The decor is young and fun. My sisters-in-law both loved the women's washroom! I thought it was a bit on the silly side, rather like Dr. Seuss gone crazy, but maybe I'm getting old and grumpy.

Don't know that I'd rush back to Marche. When I eat French I like a more intimate setting, and the food was not so stand out to me.

Thanks! Well, the groupon fine print says it probably won't work with the price fixe menu anyways:

Limit 4 per person. May use 2 Groupons if party exceeds 4 people. Not valid with any other offers or specials. Not valid Valentine's Day or New Year's Eve. Tax and gratuity not included. Reservations preferred.

This groupon deal is pretty lame, to be honest.

You can get a free $25 gift certificate by joining KDK's Frequent Diner program.

The only difference I can see between the $25 gets you $50 groupon and the $0 gets you $25 Frequent Diner cert is that you can't use the latter on Saturdays, which seems pretty easy to work around.

The groupon is VALID for the prix-fixe Dinner as confirmed by the staff in the groupon deal discussion section.

Marche is above ok but not that much more above. I enjoy the food there but I hardly *crave* it.

That $25 FDCert is probably better used at another location. I got my $25 for Grioche.

I signed up for the Frequent Diner Program there a few months ago and never received my gift card.
I did buy 2 of these Groupons though. Dinner for 2 people @ the prix-fixe nights = $8 plus tax, tip, etc.

that's a pretty darn great deal!

I think you mean $33 plus tax, tip, etc, since you paid $25 for the $50 GC. Unless I'm missing something..

ahhh...see! They already got me with their smooth typing way! I tend to overlook that I paid the initial fee for the giftcard. I still think it's a decent deal though, no?
