Any hints? I'm after that wonderful, fresh, bloody, rice-studded morcilla Spanish black sausage like I use to eat in the North, and true Spanish "sweet" chorizo, the well-cured sausage with twisted ends. Do you know of any good places for buying Iberian cured and fresh meats?

I know you can find chorizo at the deli at MarketPlace in Skokie, on Oakton & Skokie Blvd (Cicero becomes Skokie Blvd.) As for the other thing I'm not sure.

Wow, this identical query comes up. A lot. El Mercado, La Unica, Deliberico, F&O, Sam's -- all for chorizo, Mercado and La Unica for morcillas as well. Buenos Aires Deli (?) is another option.

Often (always?) folks inadvertently confuse fresh, Mexican chorizo (found literally in every grocery store in Chicago) with dry Spanish chorizo (harder to find, but widely available). Look for the Palacios brand from Rioja (Spain), which is to my taste the best normally available in Chicago. Certainly available at Sam's and La Unica, probably F&O and Deliberico. PS, El Mercado's morcillas are quite good and likely close to what you had in Spain. Only problem is Mercado doesn't always have the Palacios chorizo. The always have other brands that are ok.

If your looking for the Iberian chorizo and salchichon that fairly recently became available (acorn fed pigs, etc.)-Fox & Obel has this stuff and a case full of related products.

I'm not sure if it's Iberian, but the Binny's on Dempster and Skokie Blvd carries really superb cured chorizo that my boyfriend uses for tortilla all of the time.

JeffB mentioned Deliberico above and I enjoy shopping there, though the last time I was there, they no longer had several items I had formerly gotten there regularly.

I've written about the place at some length here:

Is linguica available at the above locations? Maybe this has come up before, but my search only references it being available at Paulina.

    Anyone see it around?

I second JeffB's El Mercado rec. I had some a month or so ago, grilled over lump charcoal. Bloody good.

I ordered a bevy of Iberico products, including a fantastic lomo and a few excellent, cured chorizos, from La Tienda.com. I've also pre-ordered a whole Iberico ham, de belota, which is supposed to deliver by late 2007 or early 2008. I cannot wait to tear into it.

Ditto re La Tienda. Since then, I have found it (Palacios brand, both regular and picante) several places including the new City Olive up in Andersonville (great olive oil selection!) and, I think, also at Pastoral. Both places also stock imported piquillo peppers...yum!

    Gary,
After looking back at my post-it may be deceiving-by "related" I meant
stuff like lomo, and the cured meats from France, Italy, etc. that most people here are aware are at F&O. Not related in the sense they are all "black pig" items. Just to clarify...

i am making some argentine bbq on saturday, and would like to round off the matambre, emanadas, etc i am making with some sausages, specifically morcilla(spanish blood sausage), and chorrizo(spanish pork sausage). does anyone know a good butcher to get these items. since i am in pilsen, obviously i would prefer something close, but if there is a place worth traveling to, that would be fine as well.

I doubt it is Spanish morcilla but the morcilla I had from the hot bar at Ruffolo Market was simply amazing, best I've had in years. Just had some a few minutes ago, even cold out of the fridge it is still delicious.

I also like Ruffolo Market hot bar as they have goat on Sat & Sun which again is done excellent. Simply take home, cooking is already done.
