Please join me, LTHer/Beetnick/Purple Asparagus Chief Spear MAG and a host of others at Daley Plaza on Wednesday, August 26 for Slow Food Chicago's Eat-In. What's an Eat-In you ask?
The Eat-In, on Wed. August 26th at Daley Plaza, is a free, fun, and inspiring rally in Daley Plaza in Chicago. Join us in supporting the change toward a more effective reauthorization of the Child Nutrition Act. Bring you own lunch or visit one of our participating providers to pick up your Slow lunch and join the table with: Chicago’s own Bill Kurtis and Commissioner Mary Ellen Caron, city and state legislators, local farmers & purveyors, and partner organization.

For more details, go to the Slow Food Chicago web site. And I'll post updates when I have 'em.

I'd love to participate! Do you know if it's an all day thing or just during lunchtime?

There will be some stuff during the day, including the well loved Local Beet booth, but the prime activities will take place during lunch time.

I should have mentioned above, but there are ample opportunities/needs for volunteers. Feel free to contact me if interested, and I can hook you up with the right people.

Since it's a work day for me, I'll only be able to show up for the actual eat-in during lunch. Should I just show up at noon and find the main booth? I also plan on ordering from Green Bag (or another vendor, if any). Will they have a booth for me to pick up my chow?

There will be an area to pick up the pre-ordered meals. The exact schedule is still being worked out. I'll post more soon.

I'm just around the corner from Daley Plaza and will definitely come down for lunch. What they're feeding kids in the school system is atrocious.

I'm working on getting a coalition of Evanston folks down for this one - the Labor Day date for the national Eat-In is really difficult for everyone. Hopefully we'll see you!

    Here's some details:

    Eat-in in at Daley Plaza

On August 26th, Slow Food Chicago is organizing an Eat-in in Daley Plaza, with the theme "Time for Lunch."

    www.slowfoodusa.org/timeforlunch

Although it will be guided by general Slow Food principles (i.e. we should all enjoy delicious food that is good for us, good for the planet, and good for the people who grow it), at this event we'll be specifically calling for Congress to pass a Child Nutrition Act that gives schools the resources to serve REAL FOOD for lunch.

We're looking for volunteers to help out on the
day of the event (Aug 26th). Volunteer duties include:

    Setup: 9am-12pm
General event management and breakdown: 12pm-3pm
    Petitioning: (both shifts)
    Greeting People: (both shifts)

    If interested, please contact volunteer@slowfoodchicago.org
Erin McMillan or Sher Blair will get back to you.

More information is also available on our web site: www.slowfoodchicago.org

"The "Time for Lunch" campaign is part of a broader, national day of action organized by Slow Food USA to invest in children's health, protect against food that puts children at risk, and teach children healthy eating habits that will last throughout life.

I remembered this morning on some errands between home and the Loop that the Eat-In is this Wednesday. I plan to be there and bring my lunch. Since I haven't been to GNR nominee J.P. Graziano, and it's on the way I ride from home to the Loop, I was thinking of stopping there on my way to the Eat-In to pick up a sandwich. If any LTHers won't be brown-bagging or ordering a lunch from one of the Eat-In vendors, I'm happy to take orders and deliver sandwiches.

Then it occurred to me that GNR nominee Bari will also be on my way to Daley Plaza. I'm a big fan of Bari, and while I believe a trip to the store is very much worthwhile for anyone who hasn't been, I would also like to offer myself for Bari delivery on Wednesday.

If you'll be at the Eat-In and would like a sandwich from either J.P. Graziano or Bari, let me know what you'd like. I take cash only, but I don't charge for delivery.

Just so everyone knows, the weather promises to be crappy. Rain, rain, and more rain with the possibility of lightening. But it should clear up about an hour after the rally is over.
