We've got friends from L.A. in town tonight and we're trying to find a place to go out to dinner. We're hoping for someplace fun but not terribly expensive. One of our party is a vegetarian (eggs and dairy fine) so we're looking for a place that serves veg but doesn't focus on it. We wanted to go to Arco de Cuchilleros but they're not open on Mondays. Looking to stay on the North Side. Please help!

Would the folks in your group be interested in Ethiopian food? Ethiopian Diamond (my fave) does great food for vegetarians and carnivores. The last time we were there, five of us shared two of the combination/sampler platters (about $30 bucks each sampler) which are meant to serve two people each - very generously. We could have easily fed a sixth person from our order. They have both meat and veggie samplers and the veggie items are amazing.

Tonight? Go to Lula Cafe in Logan Square. It's Farm Night. The soup is always vegetarian if I recall correctly. Perfect for the Omnivores & the Vegetarian.

BTW- I'm a vegetarian that adores food.
There are more than soup offering available and the staff is sensitive to replacing things on the menu to make them animal-free. Sweet potato tagine stays on the menu & is a winner(vegan)
