I am bringing a Weber Grill and 20-lbs of lump charcoal, though PhilW's Klose (smoker, not grill) will have room and be perfect for the hot links.

Speaking of the benevolent PhilW's Klose, I am also planning on bringing some Dragon Turds -- incorporating both homemade bacon and sage sausage -- which I would love to be able to smoke on it, as well.

The jerk jerky is going well! I did get two different jerk marinades to try. I will have traditional jerky as well.

Asparagus is on sale at Dominicks ($1.88/lb) so My Brde picked up a few pounds and will wrap them with bacon and sprinkle with cheese. Will be brought cooked but cold and we will be looking for a corner of a grill to warm them up.

She is still on target with the cooler of ice.

Thank MHays - Michelle for the spreadsheet.

    ---

The dearest thing tomorrow will be tables and chairs. If you can tuck a folding table and a few lawn chairs, you will be assuring you have a seat. We will have 10-14 picnic tables from the forest preserves. Otherwise it is BYO-seating or a BYO-blanket to sit on.

If you bring some extra water, that can't hurt either. If it isn't used, you can take it home for use another day.

I'm now going to make a whole bunch of name tags.

The weather has blessed us with perfect picnic weather! See you tomorrow!

A question for someone who knows: regarding glass, is it strictly forbidden or is it only alcohol in glass that's not permitted?

    From the Forest Preserve website:
Glass beverage containers are not allowed on any Forest Preserve property.

And in the Picnic Permit rules

The sale of alcoholic beverages in any form is prohibited. Glass beverage containers are not permitted on Forest Preserve District property. Please note that the consumption of alcohol upon or within 50 feet of any roadway, parking area, or entranceway is prohibited.

This also seems to mean you can't decant from your car.

So, does that mean that condiments or other food items in glass are ok (I read this to mean that they are)? What if I have some pickles or a condiment in a Ball jar? I'm just trying to figure out if I need to repack these things while I still have the opportunity, sometime before the picnic tomorrow.

    Hi,

Their wording is very specific to beverages. I have bread and butter pickles in a ball jar I plan to bring. That appears to be ok. Grape juice in a ball jar is not ok.

For those who inquire about bringing dogs, we ask your canine friends stay at home. Dogs don't fit well in a crazy environment loaded with people, food, fire, alcohol and kids running around. It is asking a lot of even the best behaved dog to keep their equilibrium.

I am keeping my cat at home. She may not be the best example, because she is probably glad I am not home.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

ronnie - I had the same thought, so we just repacked everything, or we put it in plastic to start. We even bought plastic wine glasses (ugh!). That, of course, will define the upper limit of the $ of our wine. But we are open to sharing, as the box is large and the plastics (well, I can't say 'glasses') we are bringing are many.

Cathy2 - I heard your cry. We will be bringing an old card table, two camp chairs and a market umbrella. From the size of the crowd I'm guessing we might be camped out way past the black stump, so will bring full picnic survival gear. Including extra water, to be sipped from said plastic wine . . . . vessels.

Food update: the Baba is resting in the fridge, melding flavors as we type. The Cuban black beans are soon headed there for the same gentle rest, after we do a Q.C. check tonight (called 'dinner'). The pork shoulder has been in marinade of citrus, onion, garlic, oregano, cumin etc. since early morning, and will go on tonight around 9pm.

We are leaving our dogs at home. As gentle as I know them to be, I care too much for them to bring them to a gathering of well meaning people. Some well meaning person, or perhaps a child, will find great pleasure in feeding one of my poochini. Ours are always willing to accept a treat. But I found out, the hard way, that picnic food doesn't always agree with their stomachs. Three days of, well, how should I say this . . . 'cleaning up after them' until their systems regained stability was not worth the several hours of companionship at the picnic. We'll leave them home and snoogle them when we return.

    See ya around 11.

I have a couple of sleeves of cups totaling 36 that I can bring. I also noticed that there are paper towels listed, but no napkins. I'll grab what I have which looks to be about 200.

    Thanks,

With over 200 attendees, and children and alcohol present, leaving dogs at home simply makes sense. Also, as Cathy has repeatedly asked, no beverages in glass bottles. One additional request, please remain mostly clothed at all times. NR706 I'm talking to you.

One additional note, there is no clean up crew, we have not hired a clean up crew, we desire to leave the grove in better shape than when we arrived. Please pitch in with clean up.

    Looking forward to tomorrows picnic,
