The cranberry harvest in New England takes place during October. The Cape Cod Cranberry Growers Association website offers a Harvest Trail Guide. The harvest itself appears to be a visual treat. I hope to attend the Cranberry Harvest Celebration in Wareham and to take the guided tour of the A.D. Makepeace company's cranberry bogs. The site is spectacular enough to prompt them to offer helicopter tours. (No helicopter for me.) It looks as though this might be an interesting event, with cooking demonstrations and "family fun." I might follow up with a visit to Plymouth Plantation.

Man : I can't understand how a poet like you can eat that stuff.

Not to hijack the thread, but I attended the harvest of cranberries near Bandon, OR a few years back. It is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Wisconsin produces 57% of the cranberries produced in the US. Here are some links to bog tours and to cranberry festivals held in the coming weeks.

Hijack away! Your post is the reason I continue to post out here in the hinterlands of CT. There is always someone who knows something relevant to share. Wisconsin is a lot closer than Massachusetts.

It used to be that another great cranberry attraction was in Las Vegas - Cranberry World West. It featured a tour of the Ocean Spray plant and a LOT of free samples.

Used to be, huh? I guess the only reason I would ever have to visit LV has evaporated.
In other news, I'm told that Berlin, WI (near Ripon and Green Lake) has a few remaining cranberry farms.

    Hi Josephine -

I am interested. I'll need to see if my husband is willing to take the drive. If not, would you mind picking me up in Old Lyme?
