The Chocolate Garden-Coloma Michigan

Last year, the family and I were vacationing in SW Michigan when we came across The Chocolate Garden in Coloma, Michigan. This cute, little and charming chocolate shop, prides itself on its "Extraordinary Handmade Chocolate Truffles". My MIL lives in the area, and every time we see her, we now travel the extra 20 min to The Chocolate Garden and pick up a treat for the family.

They come in a variety of flavors, from traditional (milk chocolate, white chocolate) to slightly unusual (vanilla rose) to "local" (Lago Rosso, which uses a red wine from a nearby winery and Solera Double Gold, which uses a sherry from a nearby winery). In addition, they are peanut-free which is another reason we load up when we are in town. My son is allergic to peanuts and it is very rare that we can find a sweets or treats establishment that is safe for him.

They come in assorted boxes, or 2-fers, which are 2 truffles of the same flavor. If you are traveling to SW Michigan, I highly suggest that you head over to Coloma and experience these amazing truffles.

They are indeed very fine. I first bought some for Christmas dinner a few years ago. The dinner went well, and I offered an assortment of the truffles to my guests. They made a very good impression. After a few minutes, I noticed several people staring at the remainder. I had enough for a second round, and so invited anyone who wanted to have more. Every one had a second. After a few more minutes, I noticed a sort of blurry, stunned look on some faces. Chocolate Rush! The consensus was that it was a definitive chocolate experience.

We stopped by the Contessa winery just down the road from them. The wine was pretty good, too.

Hi- The house where the Chocolate Gardens is located used to be part of our farm. My sister decided to sell the house when she took over the farm. Tina who owns the house now and owns Chocolate Gardens used to give my sister a box of free truffles for the holidays. Her truffles are much better than any of the truffles I have tried in the Chicago area. They are not cheap though. Last I heard they were going for $39 a pound. She has gotten several plugs on the Food Network.
You can order her truffles through her web site, and she is now allowed to do sales out of her house. When she first opened, she wasn't allowed to do retail out of her house. Hope this helps, Nancy

That is true, they are $40 for a 1lb box. The 2-fers are $5.29, which is what we load up on. We each get to choose 2 2-fers, which is a little over $40, but we all get what we want!

They don't custom make the box orders (you can't say, I want 2 vanilla rose, 2 milk chocolate, 4 coffee bean...), they are boxed by a pre-selected assortment (dark chocolate assortment, milk chocolate assortment...)
