Hi- I am looking for people's favorite place to purchase apple pie in the Evanston area? I go to Winnetka several times a month, so I would also consider places in Wilmette or Winnetka or even Skokie.I work for somebody vin Evanston that loves apple pie. His wife usually orders it from Tag's, and pick it up for them, but there has to be better pie than what they sell there. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks, Nancy

The scarcity of good pie has been well documented on LTH- however, I just learned that Unicorn Cafe carries Hoosier Mama pies - perhaps they could add on an order for you. It's worth a call! Otherwise, you might take a look at Foodstuffs or A La Carte - no idea if either carries them, but I bet they'd be better than Tag's.

Hi Thanks for letting me know that the Unicorn Cafe is selling slices of Hoosier Mama pie now. I will have to go in there and try a slice. When I was over at Tag's picking up two pies, I went into Foodstuffs, and they had two different pies there. The Southern peach pie looked really good, but it was $17, and the pies at Tag's were only $9 a piece. I would prefer to go to Bennison's for pies, since I only live 2 blocks from there, but the husband is used to getting his pies from Tag's, so the wife will not order them from Bennison's. I have bought a few of Rolf's pies at Whole Foods, and he loves their pecan pie. Rolf's keylime pie is good too. Judging by the fact that I only got one response to my post, I am led to believe that there are not a lot of wonderful pies being sold in the North Shore. Thanks anyway, Nancy

FYI: $9 is an unusually inexpensive price for a pie: if you're looking for quality, you're going to spend more (or make it yourself) I think $9 is what you pay at the Jewel, for instance, and you get what you pay for.

Hoosier Mama's whole pies are $20.

Hi- Actually they put pies on sale at Jewel all the time for $4.50-$5. They also have pumpkin pies on sale this week at Whole Foods for $5. Tag's pies are better than either Jewel or Dominick's. I was wondering if anybody had ordered a pie from Bennison's? I have had their apple pie in a bag, and it was good. Thanks, Nancy
