I just picked up a 3lb bag from Trader Joes at $5.29 today. May not be the cheapest ($1.76 a lb) but still a reasonable price.

    Don't buy them in Indianapolis.

2.99/lb at Marsh and 2.79/lb at Kroger. And these apples are almost a pound apiece! I am hopelessly addicted to these things so maybe it's a good thing the season is so short - otherwise I might spend my kids' college tuition on them.

    (OK not really.)

I picked up my first honeycrisp of the season today in the Palatine Farmers Market. They were $2.50/lb. They taste just like fuji apples to me. I think I liked my batch from Trader Joe's last year better.

Edgewater Produce on Clark just north of Catalpa has them for $1.49 a pound (I think the cheapest price in this post). But they are big (as they just are) and seem a little prone to some nicks and bumps. Seeing how Edgewater is owned by the same family as HarvestTime foods, I imagine they are there as well, perhaps cheaper as they move a higher volume than Edgewater.

Tony's Finer Foods (at least mine) has the HC's advertised at 3.49 for a 3 lb bag.
I don't think I've ever bought a prebagged bag of apples, but I might go for it. Call me a weirdo, but I LIKE picking my own out of a bin.

    seebee-

I'm with you. I bought a bag of Honeycrisp last weekend at the Evanston Farmers Market. I had a choice of a preselected or a bag I filled myself from a big bin of apples. I filled my own bag. I wish I could remember how many pounds the bag held -- it was $10 for the bag.

Got my first batch of the year over the weekend - I was so excited to see them I didn't even notice the price. I was more concerned with how many would fit in my bag.

At my TI (Hyde Park) 2 days ago they were $1.49, from MI. I had one and it was as good as this variety gets. (Not my favorite variety, but for those who love it, the flavor was pure Honeytcrisp---super crisp and almost candy sweetness.)

Aldi in Villa Park had Honeycrisps today for 69 cents each. I bought six and weighed them when I got home; they weighed 3 lb. 9 oz. That comes out to around $1.16 a pound, best deal I've seen yet.

I bought a basket of great honeycrips from the Klug Farms stand at Green City for $5 and there were five or six apples which weighed in at about 3.3 pounds, which works out to roughly $1.50 per pound. And I believe I saw similar sized baskets for $4 elsewhere, so the farmers markets may be a good bet for honeycrips that are cheaper than most grocery stores.

Two weeks ago, the Evanston farmers market generally had them for about $3/lb - these were individual in a bin, don't know about basket prices.

rickster -- I had noticed the per pound pricing on apples at the farmers market as well, and it was higher than what it worked out to if you bought a pint/other basket, so I guess I should have clarified that. For what it's worth, I did see some of the bulk honeycrisp apples at Green City last weekend at $2 per pound, which still seems better than some of the prices listed above for the larger groceries.

Hello everyone-- this is my first post on this site finally! I was at the Strack and Van Til on Elston yesterday and the honeycrisps there are $1.99 a pound. They are large apples and a little bit tart but are they crisp!! I have to check the Trader Joes on Lincoln too because they were pretty reasonable last year at around ?3.50 for a 3 pound bag (?).

Just returned from the Daley Plaza farmers market. Nichols has been selling all their apples for $2/lb. I like the mix and match option vs some of the other stands that sell them for $5 or so for a small basket. Not sure how many lb in it though.

I'm hittin my Tony's today for my first honeycrisps of the season! 1.49/lb, but they are not pre-bagged. Is it sad that I'm a lil excited? I'm still gorging on excellent melons while they last. I'm not ready for fall yet!
