Okay, it's time for the 7th LTH dessert exchange and I'm hosting this time. It will be at our kitchen which gives us plenty of room to prepare and gather, but I only have seats for 12. I can accommodate more, but you'll have to bring your own seat (I have plenty of tables). I've only been to one of the events so far and liked that it didn't have a theme so I think I'll keep this one open too.

FIG Catering Kitchen, 1850 S. Blue Island Ave., Chicago
(metered parking outside - no box, bring quarters)
    Monday, October 5
    6:30 p.m. - 9:30pm
    Bring a dessert to share.

Here is the basic format for the dessert exchange:
    1) I’ll make something for dinner and provide non-alcoholic beverages.

    2) Bring one recipe size of any dessert – no doubling or tripling of recipes needed! There will be plenty to sample and take home.

    3) Bring a container or two to transport your dessert assortment home.

    4) Come hungry!

If you're interested in satisfying your sweet tooth, please RSVP and let me know what you are bringing. I will start a list.

No idea what I'm make yet...

    List:
    figmolly+1 (something with figs)
    aschie30
    Pucca
    eli
    Cinny's Mom (Fancy Choco-Caramel Apples)
just joan (Hungarian Janci Torta with Dulce de Leche Whipped Cream)
    ymas
    carrienation (baba au rhum)
    foodie1
    12345ne (tentative, flourless chocolate cake)

    Total: 10-11

I'd love to attend this. Just FYI, I'm coming from the far north side (North Park), so if anyone is hesitating to sign up because you can't get to the south side easily, I'd be happy to pick you up along the way.

I'm thinking of making baba au rhum.

I won't have any problems getting there (I'll be coming from my office downtown) but if I could snag a ride home, that would be great. I live a bit north of Lincoln Square, not too far from North Park.

So, I'm still undecided about my dessert, but figure since it's fig season I should somehow incorporate those. Fig ice cream, Fig Bread Pudding, Poached Figs? I'll figure it out by next week...promise.

hi all, i havent decided what to bring, but i plan to bake something from rose levy beranbaum's new cookbook, 'heavenly cakes', which just came out this week. i've been looking forward to this book for months and it has many fantastic recipes. i had been thinking about pumpkin cheesecake and now i might try rose's version rather than my own. hers has 2 cups of cream (!) in it- hard to imagine it holding together, but she IS the cake goddess as far as i'm concerned, so if i follow her directions exactly, it'll probably be great. pucca- are you still going with something pumpkin? any idea what? i might pick something else so we dont have 2 pumpkin desserts if you are. joan

I am probably going to make a pumpkin gingerbread bar. Personally I love pumpkin, so I would not mind another pumpkin dessert. I can't believe Heavenly Cakes finally came out. Can you please bring it? I would love to see it before purchasing it. I understand if it is too heavy to lug around though!

yes, i joined the 'good cook' book club in anticipation of rose's book being released. i got 4 great cookbooks plus hers for $32 , which was basically half price for hers and shipping charges for the rest. it's really a good deal. you have to buy 2 books at member prices (less than retail) in one year to get the 4 books for $1 each plus shippiing. knowing i wanted rose's book, i took care of my first book at the same time i ordered.
i'll be happy to bring it , yes it's heavy, but i'm driving. her books are really reference books, something worth having around to mix and match cakes and frostings, etc.
i dont mind 2 pumpkin desserts either, i'll see what i feel like baking on sunday.....see you soon, joan

I made a batch of crabapple jelly last week that turned out beautifully if I do say so myself. I want to use that in some way, but I'm not quite sure how. I probably won't decide until the last minute.

I grew up with a crabapple tree on our front lawn. I am eager to try this as I have never tried eating the crabapples!

My grandparents had several crabapple trees in their yard. After my cousins, brother and me would be done pelting each other with the fallen ones, only two of us (my cousin Jeff and me) had the guts to actually eat the crabapples. Always, the first few eaten were incredibly, gut-wrenchingly tart; but then, for some reason, you'd want to eat more. It's been years since I've had crabapples. Looking forward to trying it, eli!

    P.S. Linzertorte?

justjoan: You're right, I guess I got carried away with talking about everything else. The flavor was like apples with a bit of tartness and some floral tones. I think it's quite good. (I also updated my post to correct the omission. Thanks for pointing it out.)

aschie30: I've been kicking around several ideas in my head, but hadn't thought of linzertorte. Thanks!

Do you still have room? I would love to come to my first lthforum event but I am very tentative at this point due to some work being done at my home.

If I do come, I'm thinking of bringing a flourless chocolate cake.

Parking update: We now have boxes. Quarters or cards accepted.

Still don't know what dinner will be, but I'm thinking something warm and comforting - chicken pot pie? I'll also have salad and veg options.

Figs are standing nearby awaiting their instruction...still not sure what I'll do with them.

Not exactly fall, but I had to use the fresh calamansi my friend my California gave me a few days ago. Hope this is okay...
