    River North OctoberFest - Tuesday, October 6, 2009, 5 >10 p.m. - $50

    Image

Wandering the neighborhood where I work - unable to have lunch today because of an after-work physician's appointment - I noticed a sign in a storefront window promoting an Octoberfest in the River North neighborhood.

From the River North Association’s website (which I checked after my walk), this description: “OctoberFeast is a progressive stroll among some of Chicago's best restaurant, bar and entertainment venues, each featuring signature food and drink tastings along the way.”

Participants reportedly included in the event are: Ai Japanese, Buca di Beppo, Bull & Bear, Hard Rock Cafe, Harry Caray's, Hub 51, Italiasia - The Best of Both Worlds, LaMadia, Martini Park, Maxwell's at the Club , Mercadito, NAHA, Osteria Via Stato, Prosecco, Rock Bottom Brewery, Rockit Bar & Grill, Salute Wine Bar, Sullivan's Steakhouse, Steve's Deli, Sunda, The Redhead Piano Bar, Theory, Tizi Melloul Mediterranean Restaurant, and Zocalo Restaurant and Tequila Bar.

Is anybody doing this tonight? I am going to go and wanted to see if any fellow LTHers are going to be there.

I'm still not sure what it is. You buy a $50 ticket, then you get a wristband or something that enables you to go to any of these places, at any time you want this evening, and they give you a food/ drink sample at no extra cost? Or is it an organized "crawl" where you go from one place to the next with a big group?

From what it reads it is a crawl. There are 8 different routes and each route has 5 stops. Not too sure if you get to choose a route or they assign it to you.

ah, thanks for the clarification. I won't be joining, but I will be in River North(ish) this evening, drinking at Pops for Champagne (half priced rose) from about 5:15-7:15. Feel free to stop in and say hi.

Do tell - 1/2 priced bottles, 1/2 priced glasses? (Pops' website doesn't say anything about it.)

I don't restaurant crawl unless there's a bike involved, but I'm curious as to how the event will work out. Specifically, I wonder what makes it "progressive."

I'm taking a friend to Graham Elliot for her birthday tonight so I'll be in the neighborhood if any of the OctoberFeast people (or Pops folks) want to stop in and say hi and have a cocktail.

I am on their email distribution list, as a member of the "bub club". I have no idea how or when I became a member. Anyway, the email just said that members and their guests get half off the whole rose list. not sure yet if it applies to bottles, glasses or both. I'll let you know later, unless you"d like to "pop" in yourself to find out with us? I'll be there a little after 5, meeting a friend who arrives closer to 6.

Ah - the Bub Club. (Haven't had the stomach to shell out the $20 membership fee.) Sounds good - I might "pop" in closer to 5 and stay for a little. It might be a last minute call, though.

Cool. Ah yes, now I remember. I filled out some postcard that came with my check awhile ago, then they sent me an email about the 20 buck charge, which was not explained when I filled out the postcard. In typical kennyz fashion, I told the manager what I thought of charging people for the "privilege" of being a frequent customer. I don't think she agreed, but she was sick enough of me to give me the membership for free.
