Was in Philadelphia, found myself fairly close to Chinatown, did some quick googling, and saw info on good xiao long bao (soup dumpling) restaurants. Went to a place called Sakura Mandarin, which served the odd combination of sushi and xiao long bao (and the other associated dishes you often find at such XLB restaurants, including noodle soups, scallion pancakes, small cold/hot appetizers). I know that sounds dubious, but seemingly reliable reviews rated the xiao long bao highly. I had the pork/crab XLB, and they were very good, a touch better than Joe's Shanghai in NYC and on a par with Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao in Flushing, if that means anything to the reader. Not as good as places in Taiwan or Japan. I also had the scallion pancakes, which were delicious and oily although a bit short in scallion flavor, and the zha jiang mian (noodles with meat sauce), which were nothing fancy but exactly as they should be. I did not try the sushi but the reviews I saw were actually pretty enthusiastic.

I don't really understand why Philadelphia can support multiple good XLB restaurants (place called Dim Sum Garden is supposed to be good, and there may be one or two others) while we have none....
