I'll be bringing Panang curry with brisket from the David Thompson recipe. I may be a little late (I'm driving in from Winfield during late rush hour) but I will definitely be there. Please order/eat without me if the time comes and I'm not there yet. My +1 won't be able to make dinner as it turns out.
    Looking forward to tomorrow...

Thanks for the responses everyone! I won't be able to make it to dinner (thank you for the invite Cathy), but I would LOVE to participate in the next exchange. It is such a fantastic idea!!!

Hi all - just a quick note that I confirmed that Papas is expecting you all tonight. Tell them you are with the group of 8 under LTH.

And to start the obligatory lowering of expections of dishes (or is it the dessert exchange where we lower expectations about our desserts by listing all of the things that didn't work about the dessert?...) - my pumpkin black bean soup doesn't taste much of pumpkin - it's more black bean than pumpkin. And just so you know, it doesn't have the usual pumpkin spices. This recipe uses only cumin (along with the onions, shallots, garlic, sherry...) Just so you're not surprised.

And there is a little foil packet of pumpkin seeds taped to the container to use as a garnish for the soup. I'm sorry the packet of seeds is so skimpy. I got carried away nibbling when they were warm from the oven

Have a great time and think of me hungry in DeKalb.

This sounds a lot like the recipe at

which Saveur emailed out today, and which sounds quite good, so... I'm looking forward to it :)

Thanks, everyone, for making my first exchange so fun. I hope you like my dish; the flavor should mellow like chili. Along with hellodali, please lower your expectations... :D GAF, I'm eating your chicken as we speak, and I think it outclasses Papa's.

Thank Sheila Lukins, but Susan and I appreciate the thought. And don't tell Papa's. I want to be welcomed back!

    Hi,

Dinner tonight was Leek's wonderful beef stew. I didn't recall who made it. When I saw a mushroom, I made a mental note to tell Leek. I was quite surprised to find it was Leek who made it.

I always like unexpected mushrooms bits in my food. In your stew, it was especially welcome since I know they are not your favorite things.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

Thanks Cathy. I LIKE mushrooms, they just don't all like me. I can have small quantities of normal (plain, button) mushrooms, and sometimes some others (shiitake, straw, etc) but it's a lot easier to just say no mushrooms than to query the parentage of them all. I can eat this stew, for instance, but if anything says "wild mushrooms" or portobellos, I avoid. And the most common ones in Europe are Cepes (or Boletus Edulis) and I adore them, and must not eat :(

So David gets the lovely mushroom risotto for lunch today, while I had the black bean and squash soup (which was very tasty, but as promised, not very squashy).

I'd just like to second leek's opinion - the black bean soup was delicious.

Thanks, I really enjoyed your soup (in fact I toasted pumpkin seeds last night and I may pick up some black beans to make the soup today to go with them). I also really enjoyed Gary's chicken and Cathy's soup. The rest is still in my freezer (I've been traveling) but I'm looking forward to trying the rest as well as great company and food at the next exchange...
