Saturday breakfast ideas in Evanston area

We did get Lucky Platter from nr706 & MoetChandon last night. I just want to offer more than one suggestion to our friends. Our friends were thinking Blind Faith but they don't open until 9 on Saturday. We want to be seated somewhere(good) by 8:30 am. Prairie Moon, according to its website is only doing breakfast on Sunday.

Any other suggestions?

If you want to venture a little bit North, then Ridgeview Grill on Ridge & Lake in Wilmette does excellent breakfasts (and they open at 7). What they lack in ambience (gentrified Greek diner) they make up in food.

There's always Sarkis for kitsch (and quality). I also happen to like Rose's on Central. It's a gluten-free bakery/restaurant but I do enjoy their breakfasts.

Someone will undoubtedly chime in with Walker Brothers. Not my cup of overinflated apple pancake.

May I suggest Mrs D's Diner in Wilmette (415 4th Street ). They open at 630.

I would also leave some room for a heavenly scone from the Alchemist Coffee Shop which is around the corner at 416 Linden.
The Alchemist roast their own beans and do have one of the best espresso's in town also.

I dunno - I enjoy the spinach/cheddar omelet. The service can be erratic, but decent food.

Indeed. If not Patty's, then Walker Bros.

I gotta dissent. Enough already with Walker Brothers. It was awesome in the 70's when my expectations were low and competition was slight. I'm done with puffy omelets and hyperinflated apple pancakes. It's a "just okay" place. I've eaten there exactly once in the last several years and that only served to cement my opinion that it's so easy to do better in that area. Ridgeview is much better in my opinion and less than five minutes away.

We love Mrs. D's in Wilmette. We've hit all the usual Evanston breakfast spots and we continue to return to Mrs. D's most weekends. Love the biscuits and gravy and the pancakes. Great kitschy atmosphere and wonderful service.

As for Mrs. D's, I was a huge fan when they ran the Edgebrook Diner but have yet to make it up to Mrs. D's. I can't imagine it being any less delightful. Gotta stop up there soon.

It's just as good in every way. Mrs. D's is even a little larger, so there are a few actual booths and tables besides the always friendly counter.

You'll notice that I made no statements about the suitability of Walker Brother's for the OP. I simply offerred it as a "Saturday breakfast Idea in Evanston Area" because it fits the requirement of being open early. I figure that by now, everybody knows exactly what Walker Brother's has to offer, the OP included. People already feel pretty firmly one way or the other about Walker Brother's, and are likely not to change. Personally, I have not been there in over 20 years, so you can probably guess which group I fit in. Actually, I am not a big fan of sweet breakfasts at all. but I do understand the appeal of an Walker Bros. style Apfel Kuchen to some people. The place may actually be perfect for the OP's visitors.

Myself, if I had to eat breakfast in Evingstone, I would probably get a Spinach and Feta Omlette with a side of Ham at the Golden Olympic, a traditional Chicago style Greek Coffee shop.

Funny. I usually eat once a month or so at the Original House of Pancakes on Rush. It's when I want breakfast for lunch on a weekday. I think their waffle is pretty good. When there's company I encourage them to try the apple pancake or dutch baby or something you can't get at most breakfast places.

DH wants to hit Lucky Platter so that is what we will do this Saturday. I haven't been there in a decade, and never for breakfast, so I will report back here. That said, I'm anxious to check out Mrs. D & Patty's Diner on our upcoming trips to this world for breakfast.

Lunch/dinner are easy. In that part of the world, I only want Cross Rhodes, Pita Inn, or Akai Hana. Nostalgia from NU

Not to derail the breakfast conversation, but the grilled cheese at newly opened Edzo's should be at the top of any vegetarian's Evanston lunch list.
