I think you guys have way too much fun at work and I want to come and work in your office! A lot of time is spent discussing food, which is just my kind of place.

What size of pizza is required to eat and does a slice of pizza count? I am pretty impressed with your friend's commitment!

Probably on weekends, though there have been some instances when he's walked right out the door at the end of the day with it on. He's not just dedicated to pizza. :)

On 10/31 in a dramatic act of defying our consumerist culture this pizza fanatic reaches away from his slice and eats a carrot or some other non pizza, thereby forfeiting his claim; completely unaware that because he was unable to furnish the agreed sum, Ron Suburban had poisoned his last slice!

No chance. I think his wife would kill him anyway if he did that, so there's no reason.

We do try to enjoy ourselves because life's too short and all that but we partners are also long-time friends. I go back with one of my 4 partners all the way to 1973. Another partner is my step-brother, who I've also known for over 30 years. My step-bro and I have been friends with Pizza Boy since 1981. I am so lucky to work with these amazing people, who are so dear to me.

Again, there's no minimum. He can eat as little pizza as he wants but -- and it's a big but (hehe :D) -- he can only eat sausage pizza. That said, he normally orders a larger pizza, so he can make sure to have something leftover for his next feeding. That's what made lunch today so stunning. Viccino's was the first pizza in 21 days he actually just threw away after the first meal. He (and the rest of us) absolutely hated the stuffed bacon, sausage and pepperoni pizza he ordered.

I stopped into Prairie Grass Cafe after work to have a cocktail -- ended up having a few -- and was joined later by my family for dinner. At the end of our meal, Mr. and Mrs. Pizza Boy were coming in. I sat at the bar with them while they ate dinner. The highlight, of course, was the sausage, onion and jalapeno pizza enjoyed by our boy . . .

    LTH,

Inspired by Pizza Boy, and todays article by David Hammond in the Chicago Tribune about Pizza Boy, I was drawn to leftover sausage pizza for breakfast.

Pizza slices shaped like a V for Pizza Boy's inevitable Victory in his wager with Ronnie_S.

I think he did initially but he wouldn't admit it outright. However, about 10 days ago he told me he was 'done' reading the thread because it was putting undue pressure on him. My guess is that he probably still sneaks a peek occasionally.

I've done what I can today to turn the tide but so far, it hasn't been quite enough . . .

    Image
Buffalo Wing-flavored Krunchers, Salt and Poppyseed Bagel, Turkey Pastrami

I picked these items up (along with lunch for the rest of us) at NY Bagels & Bialys in Lincolnwood this morning. He oggled the bagel for a long time, carressed it a bit and even waxed longingly about how he likes to eat 3 bagels at a time, toasted with butter. Salt and Poppyseed is his favorite bagel variety and I could see that for the first time in 22 days, I'd gotten to him. Plus, Hammond's story in today's Trib has him feeling a bit exposed. In fact, he actually joked with me today about about him buying out the bet. So far, though, he's hanging on and while I'm still not very optimistic about winning this thing, I do see a glint of opportunity here to turn the tide.

Throughout the morning, he ate four pieces of the sausage and pepperoni pizza from Seul's that he had leftover from dinner back on Tuesday. That meant that by lunchtime, he wasn't hungry. But I think part of the loss of appetite was actually a slight loss of momentum (and the unrequited bagel love). Nonetheless, he just stopped by my office with a couple of microwaved slices of the Jake's Deluxe from earlier in the week, so he's not throwing in the towel just yet. I'll need to come up with a lunch tomorrow that will really get his attention.

I can see how longing for a favorite food he hasn't had in a while (the bagel in this case) may weaken pizzaboy. However, wouldn't being featured in a prominent newspaper strengthen his resolve knowing that his feat is now being watched (or is at least known) by a much larger audience?

I think he feels more pressure now, knowing that his journey is being followed by a larger group of people. He's really resisted the media coverage from the beginning. It was myself and my other partners who convinced him to give this one interview to Hammond. If we hadn't pushed, there's no way he would have agreed to it. There were a bunch of others, which he declined to do.

Please remember that any additional bets, side-action, conditions and techniques intended to result in bathroom torture, torment or discomfort are off the table because, as I mentioned above, I have to share a bathroom with our boy and I don't want to see that room destroyed in any way. It's probably also worth noting that my office is the closest one to the bathroom; another reason I'm going to steer away from this sort of stuff. :D

    Ronnie,

I understand that the terms of the bet allowed for vegitation (onions, peppers, etc.) to be added to the pizza, and that the definition of sausage has been broadened to include pepperoni (which I understand is technically a sausage), but doesn't the inclusion of the Italian Beef mean that you have won the bet?

Unfortuantely, no. One half had sausage, one half had pepperoni. IWO, 100% of the pizza had some form of sausage on it. He's in compliance.
