Andersonville's maiden voyage of hosting a farmers market is now over (and I liked it very much) but C & D Family Farms isn't quite ready to stop coming to our 'hood. So on Tuesdays, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm they will be pulling up the van, sliding open the door and selling pork, beef, chicken and eggs. They will park on Berwyn between Clark and Ashland, either in front of Ranalli's or the church (depending on the parking situation).
I bought bacon, a few ham steaks, ground pork and bratwurst on the last day of the official market. The owner threw in 4 Italian sausage patties "for being such a good customer." Maybe the free pork swayed me a bit, but I have to tell you, this bacon is amazing. And we gobbled up the ham steaks, they made for a great quick dinner (with some Bennison bread, a nice salad and the last corn of the season).
I went back tonight, I bought more bacon, another ham steak. The woman who had given me the pork patties a few weeks back gave me a hearty greeting. We joked about about buying pork on the sly but she said it doesn't look so dicey now that she has an actual sign on her van that says C & D Family Farms.
I noticed they were also selling fresh pasta (from the guy who sold it at the market this summer -- it's not hers).
I have no idea how long into winter she plans to be parked. I didn't ask but I will next week.
