Dublin Dr. Pepper at Costco?

Overheard a conversation at the Schaumburg Costco today where the checkout guy said they now carry "some sort of rare Dr. Pepper in small glass bottles that costs a ton."

I had not seen any in the store and didn't have time to run and look, but was wondering if anyone has come across this at Chicagoland Costcos?

Crap, sounds like I'm on my way to the Schaumburg Costco.

edit: called and asked the staff at Schaumburg and they weren't aware of it, but they didn't look it up. Hopefully someone local can run in and look.

If anyone gets this & is coming to the city. Please get some for me. I love DP & have been thinking of treating myself to Dublin's.

I've already got my case of Mexican Coke from Costco. No more diet soda for me after reading it makes weight loss harder. WTW!

Having visited the Dublin bottling plant, I was surprised to see mention of Costo carrying Dublin Dr. Pepper. The Dublin plant is a pretty small operation and I don't see how they could possibly fill enough bottles to supply an order as large as one from Costo would be. I wonder if they're outsourcing to another bottling plant.

I hope someone can confirm this.

Once a year I make a BBQ sauce with Dr Pepper and always wanted to make it with the Dublin stuff. It was too expensive to order it from thier website.

It's definitely in some Costco stores out West, whether it's made it here, I don't know (not in Niles as of Sunday).

Not in Lincoln Park as of Monday, either..

Well, it works out to about $1/can if you order 48 cans from Old Doc's (I've done it), and much more if you order bottles -- $1.50 for each 8oz bottle, or $37.50 a 24-pack. The bottles themselves are only $16/24pack, and my guess is that Costco can ship pallets of DDP cheaper than UPS can ship cases, so I'd love to find that it's $24 or $25 for a 24-pack of bottles, or $15 for a 24-pack of cans.

Just want to mention that I saw the Dublin Dr Pepper, in small glass bottles at the new Lakeview gelato store at Melrose/Broadway.

I've been to the Schaumburg Costco twice since seeing this thread, and I haven't seen it.

Do you remember seeing a price? I'd guess $2.50-$3.00, but I'm curious.

Don't quote me on the price, but I think they were only asking $1.50. It is a small looking bottle, maybe 8oz at the most.

edit: Just realized Paciugo is a Dallas company, so it wouldn't be too hard for them to buy cases for $0.67/bottle and move it up their supply chain to the Chicago area. Probably why they're able to sell it for $1.50-$2.00. I wonder if I could con them into selling me a case at a discount...

This doesn't appear to be Dublin Dr. Pepper. It looks like a new sugar formulation that the local botteler will make. Unless they've dramatically expanded, I doubt the Dublin, TX plant has the capacity to supply Costco. Either way, it's welcome news.

that is correct. i think this is made using beet sugar, also.

in any case, I've got some bad news: I spoke to the Dr. Pepper Snapple people over at Northlake, who distribute Dr. Pepper to the entire region, and neither customer service nor the production department were aware of any plans to have Heritage Dr. Pepper in the region.

I saw some speculation that Heritage Dr. Pepper will only be available in markets where the local Pepsi distributor also distributes Dr. Pepper, so it could be marketed alongside Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback. Here's hoping that's not the case, and it comes to other markets, too.

I may have to make a trip out to Elkhart, IN and pick up a few (dozen) cases, since it's been spotted there.

They have 20 oz bottles of Heritage Dr. Pepper at the Meijer in Highland, IN. No cans, though - and the there are none in the soda aisle, only at the checkout lanes.

They do have 12 packs of Throwback Mountain Dew and Pepsi, though.

Annnnd it's delicious. The flavor is not so strong as "regular" Dr. Pepper, and the texture is not as thick and syrupy as Pepsi Throwback. It is everything I wish Dr. Pepper was, and now I'm afraid regular won't suffice.

You have it backward. The stuff with sugar is regular. It's the HFCS stuff that's the mutant.

Working on a hunch, I went to the Ultra in Downers Grove today. Success! I bought the lone 12-pack of Heritage Dr. Pepper that was on the shelf.

The hunch was based it being seen at Strack & Van Til, which owns Ultra. That, and seeing maybe 20 12-packs on the shelf yesterday at the Ultra in Highland, IN.

Far more impressive, though, was Ultra's display of Pepsi and Mountain Dew Throwback. I wish I had a camera with me when I was in the Highland IN store...

(To the moderators...any chance the title of this thread could be changed in some way? Or perhaps this thread could be split where I asked whether anyone had seen Heritage Dr. Pepper? Thanks.)

Hmm, wonder if Strack and Van Til in Chicago has it. Might have to head over.
