Pomme de Terre, a charming little bistro, sits on the edge of Brooklyn's Midwood neighborhood, the culinary and commercial wasteland I currently call home. While PdT would be a find anywhere, its unlikely location and wonderful food make it a real treasure. The menu is very brief and changes seasonally. In previous visits, I'd eyed the hamburger but had opted instead for either the pork osso buco or the steak au poive, both of which are top-notch.
So recently, in the mood for a burger, I tried it and was truly wowed. Chopped from the trimmings of the strip steaks used in the au poive, this hunk of beefiness is seared in a red hot iron skillet until it's crusty outside and pink inside, served on a brioche bun with a heap of hand-cut frites and some cornichons. Oh, and smoky, house-made ketchup comes along.

I hope to share more of Pomme de Terre with you. This is the kind of place that makes me wish for a Brooklyn chapter of GNR.

I have friends in the neighborhood (which I might call Ditmas Park-just splitting hairs) and have
also enjoyed pomme de terre....especially in the summer when there are a few tables set outside.

In the same general area, I would also recommend The Farm on Adderley, especially for brunch.
One of the best I've had in a while. The cheddar grits are great.

I'm going to be in nyc this weekend, and while some crave a ny slice or bagel, my first stop is
always whichever Golden Krust Bakery I see first....it would be nothing but beef patties and coco
bread for lunch if we had one in the loop.

I haven't tried Golden Krust yet, but there are a bunch of them in Brooklyn and those beef patties sure look yummy...

I wanted to add another couple recs for this general area, one being Mimi's Hummus. Small Israeli
spot serving delicious hummus. I went there for lunch on saturday and had shakshuka margez, which is
eggs in a tomato stew with lamb sausage....very good.

A little more fort greene, I went to Der Schwarze Kölner, a beer garden (more like hall) on fulton. they
have a small selection of sausages served on great rolls that have just the slightest crunch. also-a great
selection of german beers. i still cannot believe how trendy that strip has become. afterwards, my walk to
bed-stuy reassured me that some parts of ny remain the same.

I also hit up the golden krust by the newkirk station....jerk chicken patty and plantains, delicious.

Is it lame that every time I travel to NY, I get the Corner Bistro burger? I just can't shake the awesomeness.

Went by the other night and Pomme de Terre has closed. I emailed Dave, the chef, who told me they're reopening the place in June as a casual gastropub with a full liquor license, not just beer and wine as before. Good news-- the burger will still be on the menu. Fingers crossed for their success; it's been one of my favorite places since I moved to Brooklyn.
