Went here for the first time today and had a very tasty corned beef sandwich with a nice amount of fat and lots of flavor. They also have burgers and some other offerings, but corned beef seems to be the main attraction. Looked as if they had a nice selection of homemade cake slices -- including caramel, red velvet, cheesecake, etc. I will definitely go back.

There are other locations around Chicagoland, too.

Funny, I was there Friday for the first time. I have mixed feelings about the place. My corned beef was sorely lacking in fat. Great for those that like theirs really lean. I also thought the rye bread was pretty weak. With that said, it surely wasn't bad. Quite good actually. Just not great. But I haven't found anywhere else in the area to get even a decent corned beef so I'm sure I'll be back.

Curious about the other locations though. The one on North Ave. isn't listed on the list of locations on the corporate web site.

    Is this a Jewish-style deli, or a European-style deli, or a non-ethnic-style deli?

Neither, heck I wouldn't really call it a deli.

Good question -- It's hardly a deli-- really more of a storefront for take-out. At the North Avenue location, there is no seating.

In response to the other post above re: the amount of fat: I, too, would be disappointed if the corned beef were really lean. That's no fun! The sandwich we had today definitely had a lot of fat throughout --without the fat being "gross" or excessive. I actually liked the bread-- not a true rye -- but more of a thinner, softer, seedless rye.

I also noticed that the North Avenue location was missing from the corporate web site.

I'd love to hear if others have had any experiences here -- or with other items on the menu, including their cakes, pastrami, other meats, etc.

It's an African-American-Chicago-style deli. Here's a sandwich from the 75th Street store. Note the sport peppers that are automatically included.

There's an old thread here. And an older one (on another site) here.

Interesting that the old LTH thread mentions the North Ave. location as being closed.

It was closed and replaced by JJ Fish.

I have enjoyed their sammies and will have to swing by to give them a retry.

Hi - I'm the original poster and wanted to give a brief update:

I went to AP Deli again today (the limited food choices in Oak Park are really wearing on me, hence AP Deli twice in one weekend). I have to say that the sandwich was good -- but not nearly as flavorful, juicy, and fatty as it was yesterday. I'd still definitely go back, but my two experiences suggest some inconsistency... I should also add that my sandwich was fresh-cut while I waited yesterday, but today, it was quickly packaged up as soon as I gave my order...

Still a good sandwich, in my opinion...I just hope my return to AP Deli is on a "fatty corned beef" day...
