On Nov. 14 and 15, you can watch master sushi chefs cut a 400 lb. Bluefin Tuna into restaurant grade Sashimi (and hopefully buy some of the end product at special prices). The behemoth is being flown in just for the event.

    Hi,

Thanks! Maybe this time I will finally see it.

I will definitely be there! But the 14th and 15th? Should I attend both days, or are they breaking down two different fish?

Good question. The flier just says "performance" times are 12 noon on the 14th and 15th. Only one fish is mentioned on the poster, but you would think a "performance" is the entire process. It says "You chance to watch a rare performance of master chefs reducing a 400-pound Bluefin tuna to sashimi!" I have not been in past years (but plan on going this year). Perhaps somebody who has attended this event in the past can shed some light on the scheduling.

This does sound interesting! Mitsuwa has that neato food court too, yes? I think I may have to go on Saturday and do my shopping after I watch the butchery. Maybe I'll see some of you there...

Llama and I had a fantastic time this afternoon. The tuna was only 288 lbs, but it was still a beast that yielded some gorgeous meat. Will report back later with pictures and notes on the beautiful oh-toro we purchased (at the expense of several of my toes and some of my dignity.)

That cat photo gave me a good chuckle! I enjoyed that performance (I was there Sunday) and I'm eating the results right now (interesting breakfast that I was anticipating all night). I even stopped off at the food court for some baked eel & miso soup (outstanding, although I can't remember the name of the place). Had I known that the coolers around the performance space would be full upon my departure from the store at 2pm, I wouldn't have fought my way in earlier!
