I don't know if anyone else has been to Faith & Whiskey (formerly Ta'too), maybe it's just me...but the two times I've gone there have been the only two times in quite a long while where I've actually felt way, way too old to be somewhere. And this is coming from someone who does more of his drinking in Lincoln Park than any 30-something should.

Normally I'd write this off as a funny, self-conscious thing, but the "OMG checkout those geezers who must've wandered in here by accident" vibe I was getting was so palpable that I can remember that night in detail a year and a half later (except for one embellishment: in my recollection, the music screeches to a stop when we enter).

Seeing this announcement has me torn: half of me is tempted to head over to Faith & Whiskey and sample Brad's creations while trying to ignore the out-of-place feeling, and the other half wants to print out this list and see if the nice folks at Bar DeVille would be willing to mix some of them up for me.

    Hey Khaopaat,

Thanks for the response. You did mention the last two times you went into Faith & Whiskey was about a year and a half ago. Now a days, the crowd does skew a little older. I had my 32nd birthday party there last Saturday (actually a joint birthday party with my buddy celebrating his 33rd birthday) and our group we were with were in the same age range and we didn't feel like we were too old or out of place at all.

Wednesday nights and Sunday nights definitely skew older at Faith & Whiskey. Wednesdays are more of a chill industry type night for "Walk This Way Wednesdays" with DJ White Shadow spinning old school hip hop sets, $6 40s, $3 wells and $3 Jim Beam Red Stag shots. Sundays are truly a music industry night. Every Sunday The Cover Kings (an all star cover band made up from members of Chicago's top cover bands like Mike & Joe, Wedding Banned, Hairbanger's Ball, etc) play covers all night long and members of other prominent Chicago cover bands and original bands get on stage and rotate in on songs and play. Specials at Faith & Whiskey on Sundays are half off all whiskeys/bourbons and $20 per person unlimited tableside keg service.

Getting back to the new specialty cocktails by Brad Bolt from DeVille, they're all really, really good. Brad's gone into Faith & Whiskey and trained the staff on numerous occasions and even ran a media tasting last week along with some of Faith & Whiskey's bartenders. You should definitely stop in and check out the new cocktails on a non slammed night like Wednesdays and Sundays or early on Thursday/Friday/Saturday. If you or anyone else here on LTH are thinking of coming by, please let me know. Thanks!

I appreciate the prompt & detailed response - I'm definitely leaning toward stopping in to Faith & Whiskey to give those cocktails a try now.

Also, I don't usually do much "school night" drinking anymore (dragging myself into work the next morning is much more painful now than it used to be), but the Wednesday & Sunday nights you describe sound pretty damn tempting.

No worries at all, man. You're welcome. I totally hear you on "school night drinking". If you show up anytime before 8:30pm on Friday and Saturday nights it is usually pretty tame. You can totally grab a seat at the bar or one of the tables and take down any and all of the new specialty cocktails at Faith & Whiskey.

I spent my birthday at Faith and Whiskey this past Friday, mostly because of the Repeal event I saw posted on Thrillist.

Overall, I would say the experience was very positive.

Obviously, the FREE Knob Creek cocktails made the beginning of the night great. We sat, ordered some Knob Creek on the rocks, Knob Creek neat, and Knob Creek Old Fashioned. And then it occurred to me...I didn't know any other bourbon-based cocktails (I'm a newcomer to the whole whiskey thing). The bartender, while incredibly good looking (as were the other waitresses) was not much help in recommending cocktails to try. Luckily, one of us asked if we could just sub in Knob Creek as the bourbon to use in their Specialty cocktails and the bartender said yes! That made things very easy, just ordering a Knob Creek "Insert name of cocktail here".

We also did try some of the Specialty cocktails as they were supposed to made and all were very good, the Tombstone being a favorite. None of them lit my world on fire like at Violet Hour, but definitely heads and shoulders above the dreck coming out of most "hip" bars in the area.

Everyone we talked to was very nice, especially the waitstaff, who were delighted to hear it was my birthday, insisting on lots of photos, mainly consisting of them sitting on my lap. Happy Birthday to me.....

A few things could be improved. When we walked in, the bar seating was full, but 2-3 of the seats were being taken up by staff. We just thought they were customers so we stood. Eventually, they realized they should let the paying customers sit down and offered us their seats. Still...on a busy night like that, with all seating filled, staff should not be taking up space like that. The door staff seemed more concerned with goofing around and hitting on the, admittedly very hot, waitresses, rather than doing their job.

Still, between the great cocktails, super friendly bar staff, and burlesque shows, it was a hell of a way for me to spend my birthday.

    Thanks Faith and Whiskey!
