The query from the poster looking for top sirloin roast suddenly reminded me that Gepperth's, once surely in the top 2 of anyone's list of where to go for good meat, is rarely mentioned at all anymore.
It was never exactly convenient for me, but there was a time when it was still my mecca for a special occasion cut. Seemed to have it all: crowded, gemutlich neighborhood vibe in the store, the same guys behind the counter forever, all that stuff. Before there was Whole Foods or Fox and Obel, it was either Paulina or Gepperth's at the top of the charts, Bornhoffen's just below that.
As far as I know they're still there, but one (at least this one) just doesn't hear the name any more.
Has there been a falling off? Are they quietly going about their business as busily as ever and just fallen off my personal radar?
Location would seem to lean towards continuing popularity, since the neighborhood is surely as upscale and more densely populated than ever.
Just curious. Anyone going there regularly? Anyone stopped going? Any recent reports of any kind?
