With snow flying, and more to come it seems no better time to put the feelers out for this years bbq event @ my house out southwest of the city in Marseilles. I also have to put in for my 2010 vacation days, and will need the friday before the event to pick-up the pig for the roast, and the cooker.

This year I am hoping for a little different style of event other than it being in June vs May(hoping for some warmer dryer weather). Kids are more than welcome like last year. Like last year shooting for 50 - 60 people to attend.

-This years main meat offering will be a whole roasted pig

    - Drinks, Sides and desserts would be the items for the potluck as the whole roasted pig would be the main item(folks who want to chip in on the whole pig can do that as their contribution).

Based on interest, and turnout I am going to pick up a whole pig @ Peoria Meatpacking.

Event will Run from 1:00 p.m. until all the beer & pig is gone.

Please chime in with interest in attending, or if you might contribute to the cost of the pig as your contribution

Here are the dates I am thinking of Saturday 6/5, 6/12, or 6/19.

I hope their is interest as last year was alot of fun.

    Look forward to it Jim,

I am trying to get the feelers out there early, and to give folks a heads up far in advance(I know how schedules book up quick so I wanted to put this on folks radar if there is interest).

    Jim,

Last year's Marseilles in May was next to the LTH picnic as the culinary highlight of the year. That is some great company. I am in for either the 5th or 19th (will be in Vegas on the 12th).

I don't usually vacation in June so any date you pick is good for me. I'm in! Last year was great. I'd be helping with paying for the pig and bringing any side/dessert you want.

great, I just hope for a dryer lawn this year. :D

As the date gets closer(1 to 2 months out) we can get a feeling for sides/deserts, etc or the chipping in on the pig thing.

We're looking forward to it too Jim! We had a great time last year. We'd be happy to contribute $ to the pig as well as bring a side or two. Any date is workable for us.

How funny this comes up now. Unable to make Saturdays Gastroextravaganza I went to Mado's last night for their beef farm dinner (possibly enough beef for even you Jim) and met two very nice young men who are LTH lurkers. I told them about last years Marsielles-in-May and told them to sign up for an event to meet some wonderful like minded people, especially this one when it came up!. So Sean and Mark you have no excuse, join in. Jim count me in, I had a wonderful time last year tasting everyones food and loved having the different sauces explained to my by pit-master Deuce. RAB's salted carmel gelatto was as good as any I had in Italy this fall. You're very generous to put together this event again this year, I look forward to it once again. :D

    Hi,

I offered to chip in on the pig and bring a side. I'll try to make whatever weekend works best for you. I will probably bring a friend.

As far as I can know this far out, any of those weekends would be OK for me.
nothing known is on the books this year.
I would be willing to chip in on a piggie.
I would be willing cook ribs although I am not per se a competitor, but I am not willing to lug my WSM along.
I also do a really good smoked turkey breast
I make excellent BBQ shrimp (usually in a hot oven) that would make a yummy app.
I would also be willing to cook something else
whatever - I'm easy to get along with from a culinary POV-
I just like a good party.
But i think we all know that by now...
Sorry I missed chatting with you at Sun Wah-we were such a big group!
I'd probably bring the whole family...or at least some of them.

    Hi Jim,

Thanks, for taking this on yet again. This year's incarnation was awesome and I look forward to being there in 2010.

I 'voted' for either of the first 2 Saturdays and to pitch in with the pig, as well. I will happily bring a side or 2 and some libations. I may also participate in the cook-off but I'll make that decision a bit later on.

    great, and my pleasure.

plenty o' time to decide, I know its a pain to lug a smoker, but I think it would be a fun adder to this years event if possible.

    Jim,

Was a blast last year, count me in for this year as well. I will bring a few slabs to burn for the contest, chip in for the pig and any of the dates, at this point, work for me.

Thanks for offering, its a lot of work on you and your families part.

    Enjoy,

    Jim-

I'll start working on Mr. X now. We have a hard time getting out of the city in the summer. But this sounded so fun last year.... We have an annual trip the first weekend of June, but nothing (so far) the next two. We would be happy to contribute sides, desserts, booze and for the piggie.

Glad you want to come out again Gary,.

The GP, I hope you and your husband make the trip out.

I chatted a bit with Danny from Toons last night about the roasted pig portion & some tips he can provide since I will be using his cooker(and hopefully his assistance the day of the cook), as well as made a call to Peoria Meatmarket regarding a whole pig for the roast. An 80# pig is only $.99 a pound.

Its just nice to day dream about June, and a roasted pig and festivities with fellow LTHr's on another snowy morning. My vote is for June 5th, but any of the Saturdays works for me as well.

    Jim,

I've cooked on the La Caja China 4-5 times and would be happy to assist if Danny is unable to attend. Though, with the festivities 6-months out, I am really hoping Danny, and wife and daughter, are able to keep the date open.

    Enjoy,
