I'm trying to make these cookies, but they list an ingredient -- tutti-frutti -- which I'm not sure where to find and I don't feel like making my own at this time. It's an Italian fruit preserve made from chopped fruit and brandy. Although the recipe comes from Fox & Obel's pastry chef, Fox & Obel does not carry the ingredient. Has anyone seen this, either in a store in the Chicago area or elsewhere (I'm willing to order by mail). Thanks for the help.

A call to GNR Graziano's might be in order. I'm not sure if they carry it, but if not they might have a line on where to get some. Also, one of the old school Italian bakeries such as Ferrrara might have it.

It sounds like mixed candied fruit, which you should be able to find in the supermarket. Maybe add a teaspoon of brandy to it.

Stevez - thanks for the suggestions. I called both places you listed, as well as Pasticceria Natalina, but still no luck.

Rickster - Yes, it sounds like mixed candied fruit, but there are so many candied fruits sold and my experience is that most are pretty bad. Tutti-frutti sounded a bit higher in quality.

I'll keep searching . . . maybe a trip down Harlem Ave. . . . but I'm thinking I might have to create my own. But as long as we're talking about candied fruit, if anyone has suggestions about a real good one, I'm listening. And maybe if I find a high quality mixed candied fruit mixture, I'll add bourbon as rickster suggests.

I remember eating Tutti Frutti ice cream as a kid and I remember it as a vanilla base which contained mixed candied fruit. I think a combination of candied fruits should do the trick.

I'd suggest brandy or rum, not bourbon, for an Italian influenced cookie, and I'd marinate the fruit for a couple of days.
