I guess traditionally we always got it at Home Economist in Skokie, but they were out when we got there.
Nobody seems to carry pecan meal that we've been to, from Jewel to Trader Joe's to Shop 'n' Save to Garden Fresh.
Haven't gotten to Whole Foods yet -- they may be my Obi Wan.

Anyone have a (north suburban) suggestion? I know I can probably hike out to Barrington for the Fisher Nut/Home Economist, but that's a bit more shlep than I want.
What is patriotism, but the love of good things we ate in our childhood?

It's possible that WF might have it, but I wouldn't count on it. Bob's Red Mill carries almond meal, but not sure I've seen pecan. I buy the TJs almond meal a lot and use it in gluten-free baking. Pecan is a bit stronger taste and probably more expensive so I've never looked for it.

A food processor and some pecans are a sure bet, though. Just be careful and don't make butter, lol. That's how I used to make almond meal prior to buying it at TJs.

    Good luck finding it.

OH! Just remembered. I knew I'd seen it. It and walnut meal are commonly found during Passover at a Kosher grocer, though I've seen more walnut than pecan. Small packets, expensive.

I'm with Views - just bought Bob's Mill Almond Meal at our little local natural foods store; I don't know that I've ever seen other nut meals - and Bob's doesn't list it on their website, just almond and hazelnut flours. I would take a shot at calling little Mom-and-Pop natural groceries in the area, as well as kosher places.

King Arthur Flour carries it mail order.

I'm with Views & Mhays. I'm from Orangeburg, South Carolina so we always made our own mean. My mother usually ships a couple of bags of shelled pecans from the Orangeburg Pecan Company to me each year to make cookies but I opted out of that the last few years.
