Very interesting, my brothers final project for his MBA (Loyola, Chicago) was this exact same thing. They created a program that restaurants or bars would use that would put orders directly into the kitchen, then the server would bring them what they ordered. I will let him know.

Definitely interesting. It seems like the companies that supply, maintain and manage the POS systems already in restaurants will have a huge leg up on any upstarts should they feel this concept is likely to take root.

There is a chain of gas station / fast food joint in Pennsylvania that has been doing this for years. I once made the mistake of stopping at one during my move to CT. In my defense there weren't many places serving food at 3AM.

This system would seem to me to make the server a glorified runner/buser. Seems more suited to countries where servers do not work largely for tips (and thus it does not surprise me that this specific conception of the idea came out of Israel). I could see it working in quickserve/fast food restaurants (and have seen it (presumably) in the same gas station chain Flip saw it, although in West Virginia) and maybe TGIFridays/Applebees class restaurants where the menu does not change all that much and there are not daily specials -- but those restaurants may have to rethink how they pay their servers (as I imagine tips would go down in this type of system).
