When my gf asks where we should eat and I have no thoughts, I generally give an impossible answer. Last night it was "Moldavian, I definitely have a craving for Moldavian food." When she pointed out the unlikeliness of our finding any, particularly since one criterion was that it had to be along the red line, I suggested that I'd settle for Romanian in a pinch.

We wandered off, expecting to eat at Damera (Ethiopian) before getting on the el. But on the way, we ran into Fame da Lupo, a new pizzeria on Leland across Clark from the new Chava and Blue Ocean. They opened this week. The spinach salad was fine, with a good dressing and blue cheese (though someone said it was a bit more dressing than she wanted.) Pizza wasn't worth going out of the way for, but showed potential for a neighborhood stop. The crust was interesting, though the veggie toppings had that purchased at the corner store taste. I'd recommend they buy better tomatoes in future. We'll be back.

We got in a conversation with the owner, and it turns out he's Bulgarian. In a Chicago, neighborhood-restricted, quick-food context, I think that's as close as you could come to Moldavian, and we managed it by accident.

The pizza is tasty, but what knocked me out was the meatball sandwich. Substantial pork meatballs on a sub roll with melted cheese and lutenitza, a tomato, pepper and onion sauce. I've been back three times for that sandwich, and I still have a craving for it.

We have been there several times for dinner....for the price it is nice to have it down the street when I want a pizza. Agree with FrankP, the meatball sandwich went down mighty fine with champagne. And anyplace that let's me bring in my own booze is a ok with me.
