i will be bringing snickerdoodles to the exchange. i generally prefer crisp to soft cookies, but snickerdoodles are the exception to my rule. i love their soft, chewy puffiness and the cinnamon/sugar coating. look forward to seeing everyone on sunday. justjoan

I just bought some cute treat bags at Michael's so I'll bag up 10 dozen and make a nice plate of 12 for sampling. I have no tray big enough for 132 loose sandwiches! See everybody there...

Based on the dearth of chocolate, I am either making Pinwheels or Chocolate Crackle cookies. (Martha Stewart's Cookies)

    Looking forward to it!

    HI

I want to make sure I package things up correctly - there are 10 participants, so I bring 9 packs (of one dozen cookies in each pack) to distribute and one pack of 10 cookies for tasting?

    Thanks,
    Leek

I thought it was one bag of 12 cookies for each participant (10 bags total, 120 cookies) plus one plate of 12 cookies for nibbling (grand total of 132 cookies).

leek, i believe that is correct. it is certainly what i am planning on bringing.

pielady: if you bring 10 dozen, that is a dozen for yourself-so it isnt necessary as you can leave cookies for yourself at home. you really only need to bring 9 dozen for the other 9 people, plus 10 cookies so you get to eat one of your own at the exchange. that comes to 9x12(108) + 10= 118. but i'm sure no one will complain if you bring 132!!! justjoan

    Hi all,

I emailed Dobra on Thursday at the email she posted on the board to find out about today's cookie exchange location, but I haven't heard from her. Can someone help me out with today's location?! I re-emailed her, but if anyone else can help - just in case, that'd be great! Please send the info to my email, fortsw@yahoo.com.

    See you later today!

    HI

There are a million recipes out there for Bourbon (or Rum) balls. Here's the one I used, but I rolled the balls in granulated sugar instead of powdered sugar. Make sure to keep them refrigerated.

Thanks everyone, I really enjoyed the event!

Had a great afternoon with all of you. On my way to Dobra's, I was behind a minivan for more than 8 blocks with the license plate GNR 328. I thought I must be following some LTH'er to the cookie exchange, but it was not to be. Funny now how I look at the initials GNR. AAch, I am addicted to LTH.

Thanks to everyone for the delicious gifts and cookies.
I was just munching on Diane's delicious chicken salad and Joan's truffle scone with my french salted butter. To die for!
Another successful cookie exchange. I hope to see all of you next year at my cookie exchange again.
BTW someone did leave a plabe behind, it is small with holiday motif.

Could be it was the owner of the 328th GNR, do we have that many yet?

    Hi,

I was reading Repast, Quarterly Publication of the Culinary Historians of Ann Arbor. Their Fall 2009 issue discusses Finnish- and Scandinavian-American traditions of food and hospitality.

An article on Swedish Coffee and Seven Kinds of Cookies by Kerstin Trowbridge discussed Ginger Snaps known as Pepparkakor in Swedish. She commented, "Pepparkakor literally known as "pepper cookies," contain no pepper, but ginger, cinnamon and cloves. Recipes date back to the 1600's."

I mention this because of the discussion on whether anyone used pepper in their Ginger Snap cookies. I knew of Pfeffernusse, German 'pepper nut' cookies, contained pepper. I never recalled any awareness of pepper in Ginger Snap cookies. When I read the Swedish name for Ginger Snaps, then I realized this Swedish name may have been the source for the query.

Again, I had a great time. I look forward to next year.

    Regards,
    Cathy2
