Yesterday after unpacking a last-minute purchase of eggnog that turned out to be covered in chicken blood from a leaky package, my husband called to complain - and lo and behold, Devon Market is open on Christmas! Just make sure you pay closer attention to the grocery packing than I did.

Produce Word in Morton Grove is open until 3 pm Christmas Day! And they have a complete selection of all kinds of groceries, not just produce. Lots of nice meats too including beef and pork roasts. Lots of lamb.

A HUGE wine selection on the front wall of the store. Lots of candies, Ferraro Rocher packages and that kind of thing. Lots of different pannettoni, very cute mini pannettonini for $3 each on a rack by the cash registers -- we bought a lot of these for tiny gifts and they are delicious too.

And parking is never a problem. Merry Christmas to all!

    Devon Market, 10pm
    Fresh Farms, 5pm
    Lincolnwood Produce, "late afternoon"

Just realized I forgot horseradish and sour cream to go with our holiday standing rib roast.

Horseradish, sour cream, salt, pepper, lemon juice, drizzle of olive oil. I prefer the slight sour cream tang over freshly whipped cream.

Purchased the last bag of flour at Walgreen's. They have a good selection of basics - chocolate morsels, vanilla extract, etc.
    Leek

On Boxing Day(12-26) or Christmas Day (12-25)?

I need more flour if I don't have it in my trunk.

Probably should have posted on Sunday....

Fresh Farms was open Sun/Mon, much to the delight of some relatives who drove in from out of state for a quick weekend trip. I drove them over Sunday morning and they picked up all the "exotic" stuff that's hard to find in Iowa.
