    Hi Everyone-

What are all your favorite holiday/winter beers?

Binny's is having a big Winter Beer Sale

I haven't heard of most, but I am really interested in trying Southern Tier's Old Man Winter. I will be hitting Binny's South Loop after a stop at Manny's...speaking of which, I should post that under the One-Two Punch thread...

    Thanks!

I've been pretty disappointed in most Southern Tier beers that aren't named PumKing. That said, their Old Man Winter isn't bad at all - it didn't blow me away but I was happy with it. It reminded me of a Goose Island Mild Winter. Nicely balanced and not overpowering.

I enjoyed the Great Lakes Christmas Ale I had on tap at the Paramount Room last night.

I ended up enjoying Old Man Winter. I think it is safe to say that Southern Tier excels in stouts, but this was definitely another one of my favs from the company.

I was unimpressed with Goose Island's Christmas Ale. It seemed very one-note, with not enough bite or balance.

However, I also picked up a few bottles of Naughty Goose (Goose Island) because Binny's was have a 50%-off sale, so they are only $3. I REALLY enjoyed this brew...definitely the favorite of the night. Plus, at half the cost of Christmas Ale, a no brainer for buying next time and a heck of a deal to boot.

Best ones I've had this year were Anchor ("Our Special Ale 2009") and Great Lakes (Christmas Ale). St Bernardus Christmas was pretty solid as well.

The Anchor really is excellent this year.
